Help! Need advise! I just resigned!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

HI everyone! I need everyone's advise and/or opinion.

I just gave in my 2 weeks notice, I am in my last week and decided to just call out on my last few days. The reason being is that some of the nurses on the floor are not even speaking to me anymore and I am hearing so many things behind my back. Many negative things. I thought I was leaving in a positive note. When they asked why I was leaving I just say as much I love the unit(which is not the truth and really Major cause to my leaving), I just couldn't pass up this opportunity being offered to work in a Step down ICU. I worked in a Med-Surge fl this was my first nursing job after grad., I am forever thankful to what I've gained during my time there but honestly I was miserable from the start not only their orientation to new grads was not good but the management was really horrible and the staff not very receptive to new grads, there's no team work everyone is pretty much doing their own thing. I cried almost eveyday in my first 3 weeks there. :crying2: So when this offer came up and met the nurse manager who I seriously feel very sincere when she told me how supportive the staff in her floor are and team work is a big thing in her unit that is why there is unity. Also she was explaining to me how she was willing to help me reach my potential as a nurse as long as I work hard so it was hard not to take it.

Now my question is should I still talk to my ex Nurse Manager and explain to her why I couldn't finish my last week was because of the many negative things I was hearing from some of the nurses about me and how they are pretty much just ignoring me on the floor?

Thank you all!

This is what I was going to say, also. A few more days in a bad situation won't kill you. Leaving after just six months is bad enough without also failing to complete your two weeks' notice. You will definitely be tagged "do not rehire" (if you aren't already), and will always get a bad reference from this organization. You never know how that's going to come back to bite you in the future (and these things often do).

Do the right thing, take the high road, don't burn your bridges, etc., etc., etc. You can never go wrong doing that. :)

Best wishes!

Thats scary that you can be tagged "do not hire". What if your boss was a troublemaker . She could really do you harm.

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Yep and it happens and sometimes It might be years before you realize it...can never prove it but some bosses go out of their ways to blackball a nurse for the simplest things too.

Have you been calling out already? Do you and your ex-manager see eye to eye to begin with? If not then I don't believe that you have something to lose in this scenario. You were just there for three months. Do you think that even if you finished the whole week she will give you a stellar recommendation and will hire you back? I don't advocate for folks to do this. But in your scenario, if you've got nothing to lose, why still bother coming in? Think of it this way, if they are mean and nasty to you, they can sabotage you on your last week. They can write you up and even find reasons to report you to the BON so you will be in trouble. If it's not worth it, just chill, learn from the experience, move forward, and be happy for the next job!

Hi

That is one of the reason I why I didn't want to finish my last week because some of the CNA's that's been there working in that unit for awhile told me to call out sick and not come anymore and the way they said it as if to warn me that something not good is going to happen. These CNA's have seen how I've been bullied around always giving me the heaviest cases of pts and always me giving me the most load of pt's compare to the nurses that have been there. They are ones who told me they understand why I was leaving and that compare to other new nurses I actually lasted the most there, coz some left juz after 2 weeks. I mean there are one or two who are applauded me of leaving bcoz they saw how unfair I was getting treated and how the NM is not doing anything about it. I will never go back to that hospital after all the hell I was put through. The only thing that kept me from staying as long as I can was the learning I was getting from the floor and hearing pts thanking me for the care I provided and that they know I will succeed bcoz they feel that its in my heart and they can see I truly love what I'm doing.

Thank you for ur response

If you ever plan on looking for another job (which I'm guessing you will in the next 40 years or so) you will have to put the NM down as your supervisor. Don't **** her off before you go by calling out. You can do this. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!!
