Help! My due date is in the middle of Capstone!

Published

Hi all. So it seems with the creation of the "new" Capstone course (to accommodate the "new" Intro courses), the Capstone course I must take is ONLY going to be offered April 11th 2015. I am pregnant with our first child and due May 29th. Capstone is my only course left. My question is, is it possible to get ahead in Capstone? What's it's like compared to other courses? Am I out of my mind for thinking I can get ahead and give birth and finish up the class? (I obviously won't be working after and I'm lucky that I will have tons of family help with the baby). For what it's worth, I was able to get ahead in Vulnerable and Research to schedule some vacations, and I did fine in both classes. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

HI, Are you an RN working on your BSN? or a pre nursing student. Are you saying the course is only offered on one day, April 11th? Each school's capstone course is different, capstone is just a term meaning it is the last course meant to incorporate all you have learned into one course & you may have a project or paper to write. Check with your school/ your instructor.

I am an RN working on my BSN. My apologies if my original post wasn't clear, I meant the Capstone class (for UTA Arlington) starts April 11th, but as oposed to previous semesters there will not be multiple start dates - only the April date. I was hoping to see if anyone who is currently in or has taken Capstone for this specific program had any advice on my situation, as I have seen similiar threads in the past (however, none recently and I don't know if Capstone has changed). There is no instructor to ask, and the school only could tell me they were sorry for my "situation". Thanks!

Congratulations! Happy that you are having your first baby and also completing your BSN, that is wonderful. So the class starts on April 11, how many weeks in the course? Did you contact the director of the RN to BSN program? Or just talk to the department secretary? Try sending emails, can any of your current faculty help you with contacting any one? It may be that they have not assigned who will be teaching the class, believe it or not, when I taught in a BSN program, sometimes we found out 3 days before classes started that we would be teaching something different then what had been "penciled in" before, Yes 3 days, sometimes one week before start of classes. I did not have the previous syllabus, the book, the previous exams, Nada. So that may be why since it is 6 months away. I doubt that even getting an old syllabus would help since the project may change.

Do you mean May 2016? I was sorry to see that is the only class available too. I am also curious as to what it entails, so I hope you get some responses!

For Health Assessment did you take N3425 or N3315? If you took N3425 Health Assessment you can take N4585 Capstone, which has a start date in January. If you took N3315 Health Assessment then you have to take N4685 which starts much later in the semester. I'm assuming you took N3315 Health Assessment.

Yes, we both took the Health assessment class that requires the new Capstone course. I am hoping they will add another course earlier in the year, but they probably won't!

The problem with a 7 week course that starts on April 11th is that students wont make it to the graduation in May, as graduation is May 13 and course will not be done... [emoji37] am i missing something? They need to add another course to allow students to target the May graduation date...

Arg! I did not even realize that. I think we should all write to the advising department and see if that might do something about this. I want to graduate asap!

I agree. I think that they should add another class in order to allow for graduation in May. I also think we need to take an active role and raise our concerns to the advising department.

FYI-they did add a second course-I spoke with an advisor. Also, if you are enrolled in Capstone during the semester, you are guaranteed a spot in graduation. According to the advisors.

That is great that they guarantee a spot!! [emoji106]🏻When does the capstone that they added starts? Because i still only see 3 capstones...
