Hi everyone. I'm currently in my 2nd class for med surg. I managed through the first one and it was extremely difficult for me. I read the chapters before class, did the online quizzes, the post-quiz in the book and the study guide as well. I don't want to struggle again with this class. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any books that helped out? Any help/suggestions are appreciated! Thank you.

Are you struggling with theory? I guess you can say that nursing school is never going to be easy; but with hard work and dedication you will pass. Many people struggle with theory but are competent in the clinical setting, and vice versa. Just keep reading and doing practice tests. You may need to participate in a study group-or leave the one you have and join another. If you are struggling in a certain topic or can pin point your weakness, you can talk to your instructor or skills lab tutors to help you understand better. I tell myself, "Never give up, it gets worse before it gets better"
I spoke to my instructor for the 1st med surg class. She said that she felt like I wasn't studying enough, which was not the case at all. She told me to focus on the modules and the objectives which I did and even then it didn't help. I passed regardless but I ended up doing mini questions for myself to help me out. I know it's difficult. I don't expect it to get easy but I was wondering if anyone had tips or books that helped them out with this class. I have no problems in clinical, just in theory. This past week I've been doing the objectives and reading the chapters for this coming week. Thank you, I will keep pushing forward as always.

I've found the NCLEX to be very helpful, especially when it came to breaking down the question and what to look for. Med surg is tough! Good luck to you
