HELP...MA or RN

Nurses General Nursing

Hey everyone i have a dilemma.. I have my RN license and I got offered a Medical Assistant position at a clinic and they might potentially hire Registered nurses in the future but don't know when that is. I also got offered a Registered Nurse position but its only a 2 months temporary assignment where i review medical records for the HEDIS evaluation project.. Which one should i take..help:rolleyes:

I suggest taking the RN position. It's easier to get a job (another job) when you already have a job. Much better to state that your working in a temporary RN position than slumming in an MA position.

There are also states that the nurse practice act forbids working in a position lower than your license. For example in Florida aN RN may not accept the job title/role of CMA. I know this bc my friend in Florida has a shoulder injury and cannot do her regular RN task but needs income. She looked into a local CMA position and found out that this is not permitted. Just food for thought. If you do consider this position after all, and I don't recommend that by any means, you want to check your states Nurse Practice Act first. Good luck!

Thanks HCC2010 for asking this question. I logged on and was about the ask the same question, except I haven't been offered a job! I too am a licensed RN and a registered MA. I was considering applying for MA positions while maybe going back to school for my BSN. I haven't been able to land my first nursing job though. The advice makes sense, but I'm becoming desperate. If anyone offers ME a position as a MA, I'm taking it!!

I'm not really sure now which one to accept. I've been looking for RN position for over 8 months now and i'm offered a temporary one but if that two months is done i'm back to looking for jobs which pretty much everywhere requires at least a year experience. I really need some income that i'm willing to take any lower positions..

Well, you should continue to look while you are working in this position. I too am in the exact same boat as you and I would jump at the chance to do anything RN related. I would not take the MA position if I were you, youre better off working as a waitress or something...lol (better money anyways and it does highlight your customer service skills). You are not alone...and I know how it feels. I am questioning if perhaps Im not supposed to be an RN?? Ive applied to over 300 jobs (sounds hard to believe, but its been close to a year and I apply to at least one a day maybe up to 5). I talked with a nurse recruiter and she flat out told me that I should take an RN refresher course because they would hire a recent new grad before they would consider me. UGH!! More money along with all the addition certifications I have already paid for. Im going broke here and I just got my consolidated loan info and they expect payment on 5/1..geez:confused:
