Help! Interview questions after problems

Hi everyone,

I need some help and advice. I am working on a Tele/Gero unit (new grad - have only been working for 4 months) and in all honesty I am in over my head. The floor is incredibly busy, the residents write alot of orders and I can't keep up. Just trying to pass meds on time is a nightmare with the gero patients.

Here's my question:

I have an interview for psych position on Wednesday. What do I say when she asks why I want to leave?

I can't say too busy!, Can't say I can't stand gero patients, can't say I am overwhelmed and can't keep up!

What can I say or should I be honest?

I have a few good things I can say. I seem to be able to deal with difficult patients well (the ones that during report I am told they are a pain in the a**). They don't give me any problems. I also seem to have a knack for getting orders from difficult doctors.

Please help!

You say, that after starting you realized that it was not a good fit for you. That your heart is not in Tele but in Psych and you feel this would be a much better fit for you.

Leave out anything negative, it will only reflect negatively on you. Positives can be included such as you have learned how to deal with Doctors. Good luck in getting the new position.

I would say that I do not think that floor was a good fit for me. Tell them you thought it might be but after trying, found that it is not your "niche." It takes a while after graduation to figure out what is for you, I don't see a problem telling them.

I've always found career advancement is a good "reason". I also like UK student's suggestion that your heart is in psych nursing. NEVER say anything negative though.
