I'm suppose to conduct a formal informational interview with a RN :nurse:, I spoke with my professor and he said it was okay to post my questions on here as long as its coming from a real nurse! I didnt want to have to go to a hospital and annoy some RN with all my questions :D! So I just listed them all any feedback will help!!

What skills are most important to be successful as a RN?

What personal characteristics do you look for in a candidate seeking work as a RN?

What type of work is performed by a RN in your facility?

What type of orientation or on the job training is given to new employees?

What is your best advice for someone who is interested in becoming a RN?

What learning and promotional opportunities are available for professionals who work in this field?

What are the typical duties of an RN?

What percentage of the day is spent on each duty?

Describe a typical day.

How many patients do you see in one day? How many test do you perform? How many reports do you transcribe?

How much independent decision making is required?

What is most challenging about your work?

What is the most satisfying about your work?

How can you tell a "real nurse" online? There are many non nurses, students, nurse and student nurse wantabes here........how do you tell if they are a "real nurse"?

Just curious..........

There are many "real nurses" out there. Try the local schools, college campus, CVS mini clinics, your local health department your MD's office.....

There are alot of these requests here. The problem is that I personally believe in developing your interview skills the are all important in patent assessment.

The interview process in nursing is extremely important. It is imperative that you learn to pick up on verbal and nonverbal clues from the first moment of contact whether triaging or interveiwing you new admission. A lot of information can be obtained through non verbal communication and eye contact (or the lack thereof) Like " is anyone hurting you mentally of physically at home??" I can easily say no now but in person ....What does the body language show? Is someone hurting them and they are afraid to say????

I am thinking it is the face to face skills that you need to develop .Make an appointment at your own doctors office to talk to that nurse (just make sure they are a nurse and not a medical assistant...your assingment is to talk to a nurse.) Go to a minute clinic at CVS or Walgreens and talk to a nurse there......go to your town's board of health or health services. Go to your local schools.....elementry,middle,jr or high and speak to the school nurse. Go to the health stop on campus....there should be a nurse there too.......Good Luck..!

I agree with the above comments. The answers would take about .5-1 hour to complete...and although I would love to help, I also think that face to face interviews are the best.
