Help!, I'm obsessing over a 4.0

Published

I have my final exams tomorrow for microbiology and A&P 2, I apply for nursing school at the end of the month and the program is extremely competitive. I currently have a 4.0 in all my pre-req classes and I feel so much pressure to get a perfect score in A&P 2. However, I know that a 3.7 and up is still a good GPA to have. I also have my TEAS scheduled for the end of this month. Is there anyone else here that is applying for nursing school in the Fall?.

Side note: Ok, I know I should be studying instead of writing this post :)

I am applying for 2018 fall. However, I can totally understand why you are obsessed over 4.0 GPA. I am as well. Given that so many nursing programs are ultra competitive, having a perfect GPA is a great chance of getting accepted, though not always the case. I am sure you will do fine on your finals since you have managed beautifully to maintain a perfect GPA thus far. Good luck on your finals and application process!

Your plan to take the TEAS immediately after AandP is super smart. I did it too and it really helped my science score.

A 3.7 is a great GPA and means you are a very hard worker. Plus, experience, TEAS score, foreign language, etc also count for most nursing scores.

While I will be applying for my nursing program in Spring 2018 to begin Fall 2018, I completely understand what you are feeling! I finished up my finals earlier this month. I usually try to work my hardest early on and throughout the semester in order to walk into my finals with a high A. That way, I have lots of wiggle room in case of a sudden lapse of memory. This semester I had a short term class with two full term classes. All three courses were not ones where I could rely on this technique, but my hard work paid off and I was able to retain my 4.0. I have one last prerequisite to take (A&P 2) before I can apply. As I heard this class was a beast at my school, I decided to take the summer to review my A&P 1 info (I took it over a winter section between my fall and spring semesters) and begin prepping for A&P 2. I was fortunate enough to have gotten ahold of a syllabus and planned out my schedule to where this is the only class I will be taking in the fall. I'm also trying to slowly ease myself into studying for and familiarizing myself with the TEAS (I do not have to take it until the spring).

As FutureNurseinfo mentioned, even with a perfect GPA, acceptance is not always a guarantee so it is perfectly understandable for everyone to be stressed out. Nursings schools are so competitive and there are so many other variables involved in the selection process. I personally feel the pressure to not only get straight A's, but I also feel like I need to score in the 90s on the TEAS to help maximize my chances of getting into my program. Even then, I know once I get in, it will be a completely different grading system where success is not guaranteed.

I hope your finals went well! Keep us updated on how you did and when you get accepted to that program. I believe in you!

I applied for Fall, and got accepted. I definitely understand wanting a 4.0. It became a matter of pride for me as many people doubted me as I have a handful of kids. I ended up with a 4.0, and a good TEAS score, and I still panicked over whether I would be accepted or not.

If it makes you feel any better, I was accepted into nursing school on my first try with a 3.5 GPA.

This school does not require TEAS or any other entrance exam.

Take it easy...whether you get a 4.0 or a 3.3....once you get in your 4.0 won't even matter anymore.
