Help on what I need for school?

Some pens and paper for starters....your school will give you a supply list on orientation day.

Everyone does things differently but this would be my list.

Three ring binder, college ruled notebook paper, 3x5 note cards, box of blank business cards (for flashcards), and a couple of simple pocket folders.

Plastic page sleeves to put the syllabus and your "cheat sheet" in. I use "cheat sheet" to mean the one page worth of stuff that is most important, at the beginning of a section it is an overview showing the relationships of concepts and/or a list of the most important vocabulary. By the end of the section it is whatever I'm still working on. Also scrap paper to make cheat sheets for the notebook and to tape where I can see them often... like on the passenger's seat dash board to check while stopped for trains or waiting for kids, on the bathroom mirror, on the refrigerator.

Colored pencils or markers to help organize my cheat sheet and study papers. And their own pouch. Two side click mechanical pencils, extra lead and erasers, a blue or black pen, a red pen.

A few paper clips and safety pins, scotch tape, tiny stapler, cheap calculator, couple of small flashdrives.

Insulated nylon lunch bag (foldable kind similar in shape to brown paper bag), backpack.

Digital tape recorder.

A way to organize receipts and paperwork from sections we are done with. Hanging folders and a file cabinet of some sort, perhaps, I wouldn't buy a steelcase one unless you are going to anyway, a 3 or 5 inch deep plastic one will do. A set of simple folders and box they fit in is a little harder to use but will do.

Plus whatever your school tells you as far as specific things like scrubs and gait belts.

Your welcome, and I thought of one other thing... a set of 3 ring binder dividers with pockets. Depending on how the class is run, they can be more helpful than the seperate pocket folders and are sometimes helpful to divide the handouts or notes.

I'd add a rolling book bag or cart (with a lid so you can sit on it), Potsie. Whoa, way to date myself. :uhoh3:

A lot of people are using the smartpen and I'm tempted by it because I take notes that make sense at the time, but later? Not so much. Having a recording synched to my notes would rock the structure.

Post-it flags. Yay!

Snacks. Change for snacks. Lunch in a bag so you don't spend all your money on snacks.

A bag of need-its (asa/apap, caffeine delivery system, gum, tampons, hair ties, etc). I always have shout wipes in my car and zomg, they get blood out like whoa.

Thank you so mucch!! Do you think the rolling bag is a neccesisty?? I just cant imagine myself using it, would a regular backpack or a side one be suitable?

Nursing programs are notorious for requiring more books than most classes and using them every class. So, in general, a rolling backpack is a good idea and sometimes a great idea and sometimes practically essential.

However, every school is different; yours might not require as many books in class at a time. Some schools have nursing class right beside parking or dorms so a student might switch out stuff during breaks. Others might require so much walking over uneven sidewalks or gritty parking lots that they aren't worth it outside and the extra weight and space the wheels take offset the benefit they give inside.

And there are ways around it. Some people get the texts on their computers, some get them rebound in sections so they don't have to bring the whole books, sometimes the prof uses the books in a way that students can share a book in the classroom and two students might divide up bringing the books.

Also, it depends some on how strong you are.

I think a sidepack would be too small in most cases, although it might do for some of the days depending on how your school divides up the class time. I see about half rolling and half nonrolling backpacks at my school.
