Ok I started applying for jobs in san jose area, there're positions posted and yet no response, I have 3 years exp as an RN in medsurg/ telemetry and I work resource pool at my current job. I have been applying since June. Can anyone help? What makes an application stand out? Is it because of my Chicago address? Joining a travel agency for assignments is that a good option or will that hurt me? Please I need help I'm getting a little desperate. And can anyone give me names of good travel or perdiem agencies?
Any help will be appreciated.

I'd hate to be the naysayer, but it has absolutely nothing to do with your Chicago address. It has everything to do with California's crappy economy. For every nursing job posted in the San Jose area, hundreds of unemployed nurses are applying. The Bay area is a terrible place for finding nursing jobs right now.

Sorry to hear someone with 3 years experience is having such a hard time. The job market here is very, very grim for new grads and is starting to be difficult for local, established nurses too. Often, jobs posted online are already targeted for a specific new hire and you are just spinning your wheels--especially in the Bay Area. Also, the IR/HR staff does not follow up on the computer applications. To their credit, they are often overwhelmed. At a local Hospital recently, there were 2000 applications for 10 positions. Try contacting the hospitals you wish to target directly. Often the HR office staff are very helpful.
Good luck.

You are trying to get a job in a place where it is almost impossible to get a job. People frequently move away from that area to get work. While your Chicago address probably is not helping your situation any, it also probably isn't hurting it, because your application is not being considered.
