Help: hospital wants to run a Credit Check

Published

Hi all,

I have a question...

i was offered a job at the hospital and they said they wanted to run a credit check?

why do they do that ?

What are they looking for?

I have one bill in collections which has a duplicate- any one know what i can do?

the collection amt is $567.00 -which i just paid. i settled with the creditor and they said it will show up on my credit report i 30-90 days. its a AT&T bill long ago

my other bills are always paid on time

will the hospital use that against me?

..."So far" is the key and critical element you stated in this discussion.

Say, not to get off topic or anything but has anyone ever seen the movie 1984?

Coming soon.

:)

Yes, I did say "so far". However, as I am a traveler, the topic has come up repeatedly and recently.

I have explained to company representatives my take on this politely, refused to sign an agreement including the words "may check credit history", and when I send back a contract with permission for other forms of background check, I also write across it, in a place that cannot be deleted without obvious marks "Credit check specifically NOT authorized".

On checking my credit reports, they have not done so.

The main strength I have is that I am an experienced nurse who is perfectly willing and able to walk down the road to the next place. That and I'm old enough to carry the attitude!

Oh, and while I haven't seen the movie, I've read the book (many years ago and more than once) and I agree with you!

Two years ago, I applied for my "dream position". I was offered the position, then a few days later, they sent me a letter stating they were rescinding the work offer. I was turned down because of an old outstanding bad check that I never even knew about. It didn't come up on my prior applications for employment. After investigating, I remember it was during the time my husband left me and I had ordered pizza for my 3 kids. That $12 check cost me over $50 to take care of because it was 7 years old! I emailed my side of the story and told HR that I had every intention of taking care of it right away. The director of HR personally called me and said if I submitted the proof that it was taken care of, I could have the position.

I can't believe I had never heard anything about it in over 7 years! I felt like I was stripped naked in front of everybody and was so embarrased about it.
