Has anyone had trouble with HESI. Well, here at the university of TEXAS in Brownsville there are 21 Students who have been unsuccessful with hesi and we have completed our program, but can't sit for boards. we have to score a 900 or above, we have 8 opportunities, most of us are on the 5th try. PLEASE HELP, does anyone have any adivce. I have scored about 850 all 5 times, my highest 890, has anyone heard of pleading to the board??? especially with 21 students' future on hold because of this 3rd vendor. we tried meeting with the faculty and they denied our request to allow us to sit for boards, so we asked to allow those that have scored above 850 to sit for boards and they also denied it, we have tried hiring a lawyer but have not found one that would take our case. HELP!! i am an LVN, and this whole situation is driving me INSANE!!!... South Texas Breeze

That is so sad, that schools make us go through all that trouble. Well our school did that too, we had to score 850 on the HESI exit exam. To help you pass it, you can buy the study guide from hesi, or order an online hesi review. I guess you can google Hesi for Pn grads or something like that and try to get the info you need that way. I wish you and your classmates the best of luck.

I'm freaking out, too. I have to take HESI in December.
Are you taking Hesi entrance or exit test? I was in your shoes before I took the Hesi exit exam a few months ago. Our school requires 850 as a passing grade. Thank God I passed the first try, most of my classmates did. I found that the Hesi exit is a very generalized test, it's nothing like the NCLEX. If you are taking the exit exam, just learn your basics really well; your safety, ABC's, priorities, delegation, etc. If you are taking the entrance exam, contact the school that you are applying to and ask them what subjects will be covered in the entrance exam. Our school requires Math, reading comprehension, writting, and English. I thought that the most challenging for me was going to be math. I suck at math, I barely know how much is 2+2, but ironically that was the subject I got the highest grade on. The math you most likely won't have very complicated stuff. It might be fractions, deciamls, percentages, regular substraction, addition, multiplication, division, among others. The school might even offer a tutor to brush off on those areas. I took the Hesi entrance 10 years after graduating highschool, my math was definitely not my best and my English was poor (this is my second language, only been in US for 9 years, I am Hispanic). What I am trying to say is if I did it so can you. Just study hard and pray even harder, if you really want this you will work for it and you will get it. I am a living proof of this, I graduated practical nursing school with high honors and a perfect GPA. I took the NCLEX 3 days ago and found out yesterday that I passed. It took willingness and a lot of sacrifices. At the time I started school, my daughter was 2 weeks old and my son was 12 months and 2 weeks old. I wanted to be a nurse badly and I did whatever it took. Do the sacrifice you will be amazed with the results.
Now, going back to Hesi, the makers of the Hesi offer review packages online and they also have some books available. (ebay or even craigslist might have them at a decent price). Try to get those to be familiarized with the way they test. God bless, good luck and let us know how it goes or if you need anything else.

You are so close. I had a problem with the HESI as well I passed it my 3rd time around. My advice to you would be to read the HESI book and use Saunders 4th edition and read between the two whatever topic you are covering in the HESI book. Learn HESI's lab values ONLY there's are slightly different from others. Hang in there you will definitely get it the next time. When are you taking the exam again?

Yes, i think so. It is an end of nursing school exam required before a student is said to have passed the nursing program. .... If you dont pass it, you cant sit for NCLEX, also if you dont pass after a number of tries i think you have to take a class or something.
