Ok so on Monday I will be registering for classes at a four year university that doesn't have a nursing program. I applied to this school undecided but have since came to the conclusion that nursing is for me so I will be only attending this school for a year. When registering for classes what classes should I choose if I will be applying to a nursing program? Like classes that will give me good preparation for a nursing program? And classes that will give me a greater chance in being accepted into the program since the program is very competitive? I screwed up in high school and didn't take anything too seriously so I knew I wasn't going to get into the program straight out of high school so applying as a transfer student would give me a greater chance of getting into the program. Please help because i'm registering for classes on august 23
Biology is not a prereq for anatomy or physiology at my school or the nearest three other colleges, two cc and one four year. Perhaps it is more of a quirk of the particular colleges near me than I realized. My apologies.
I saw that the op is currently at a four year university and will be transfering but does not know to where. I took that to mean not knowing if it will be another four year school or a community college because nursing is so different than other degrees in the difference between u and cc.

Perhaps it's a quirk of the college I attended to require bio before A&P!
Isn't general biology a prereq for A&P? Also, the OP is going to a 4 year university and from my understanding, most universities do require some form of general science/biology.
Wasn't for me, then again I did have a basic, 2 credit bio class from ages ago...but I know it didn't transfer over.
Like others have said, it varies from school to school. If you are looking into BSN programs, I would look at the pre-reqs for some schools you are thinking about applying to (you can find them online usually). But in general, for your first year, I would go with any of the following:
General chemistry (maybe with a lab?)
General biology with lab (usually required for BSNs, and it's usually a pre-req for everything else you'll take like micro and A&P)
Intro to psych
Intro to sociology
College algebra
You'll probably have an English and possibly a foreign language requirement, so take those as well.
That should get you started at least for your first semester.
Biology and Chemistry are both pre-reqs for A&P at my school. I didn't have to take Bio or Chem since they allowed it to transfer from high school.
We also don't need College Algebra for my ADN program, but we do need Stats for the BSN transfer, and College Algebra is a pre-req for Stats at my school.
It would be wise to look at the curriculum for the nursing programs you may want to get into and base your class registration on that.
In general, you will need Eng Comp 1& 2, Intro to Psych, A&P, Micro, Pharm, and likely some elective like Nutrition or something. We have to take Sociology, Child Development, and Interpersonal Communication as well. It really just varies on each school. For the BSN, we have to take all of the above and 1 Literature class, 1 History class, Physiological Chemistry, and a Language elective.
We also have to be on the nurse aide registry.

I agree with the excellent advice you've been given so far, especially what Happy2Learn said about checking out the prerequisites of the programs to which you would consider transferring. As you can tell from this thread, program requirements vary from school to school as well as between ADN and BSN programs, so plan accordingly. Work hard to get a high GPA, especially in the sciences, to increase your chances of getting accepted into a program.
I wish you the best as you start your journey!
