Help Feels like ice water

Published

This is too frustrating. My mom is only 60, so dizzy and ringing in ears went to ER. Found out she has diabetes(went on special diet). Continues to be very weird spacey (dizzy) off and on , turns white and then red and says often her arms and legs feel like ice water is running through her veins. Doc's say not Meniere's or vertigo and not related to diabetes. EKG and CAT are normal. Heart is fine. BP is fine. She went from super young and active to in the house, lost 20pounds and verrrrry frustrated. ?????????????? ( what's worse is that she lives about 800 miles away from me):crying2: What should her next step be? Thank you for any suggestions.

Hmmm....might possibly be MS! I thought of that when I first read your post, because a friend of ours who has MS was constantly complaining of her legs feeling cold. THEN I spotted THIS thread:

which is about diabetes symptoms mimicking those of MS!

Must be very hard on you to have her so far away...my sympathies! {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

I am in NO way implying that this is "all in her head" or anything, but what about depression?.....I've seen patients with some very strange symptoms that wouldn't usually be related to it...Just a thought....I hope she's feeling better soon! :)

I thought of that but my sister who lives near her says you can physically see her turn white as a ghost when the has the weird dizziness. ???????????????

She would need an MRI right?

What about Reynauds? That can cause color changes, and can feel strange. I have it in my hands, and they turn colors...usually red, but from time to time they will get quite purple.

I will get most of these same symptoms at times and it is most definitely related to my diabetes. I will always check blood sugar when I feel different and have found when I am having these kind of symptoms that my blood sugar is very high usually 350 to 400. :uhoh21:

Sounds like DM to me. If this doc can't figure it out time to find a new one who can. I an not saying your doc is not good but they can all use some help from time to time. Not every doc knows all there is to know, and they don't have all the same experience. Get a second opinion.

a side note in reference to the depression. Things that are depression (or emoational) related produce real physical symptoms so even if it were depression you might very well see here go thought theses color changes.

The presence of physical and measurable objective symptoms does not preclude an emoational cause.

I would tell her to get a second opinion......and don't forget that electrolytes and menopause can cause alot of health concerns.......

I would have her see an endocrinologist and if he/she doesn't give her answers, on to a neurologist.
