Help! Failed NCLEX five times, out of school for 9 years

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am new to allnurses.com. A very long story short: I graduated RN school in May 2001. I have taken the NCLEX five times and was unsuccessful. I had tried everything I knew to do and still couldn't do it. I will admit I did give up. The last time I took it I was eight days from having my first child and she is now six. I thought for some reason I was not supposed to do nursing. I got out of nursing all together a year later. I really want to get my license, otherwise nursing school was a waste. I contacted my old school and they didn't even seem to care. I have searched and searched and the only thing I can find online and otherwise is refreshers that you already needed to have your license at some point in time. I never had trouble in clinicals or any hands on work just that test. I am very frustrated and although I want to figure out what I can do even as I write this I feel like there isn't any help out there. If the only thing I can do is go back to school and do the WHOLE program over NO WAY! I am married with two young kids and work full time repeating two years of that again I don't think I can do it. If any of you out there has any ideas you could send my way I would appreciate it. Thanks for your time:)

That comment has to be one of the most saddest things I have ever read on this site. How professional is that? You are a RN/LCSW, really? I think getting facts straight about the 3 chances would be a good start and second thing how can anyone judge another person by making a statement like that?

Our profession teaches us to show compassion and understanding, being mindful of words so where did that go?

I just passed a few months ago and I only did HURST online to pass in 75 questions. Its a great review and I feel it really dumbed it down for me in areas I needed it to.

I graduate of my LPN 2012. Take the exam 3 times I failed. I took a refresh class and took 2 times failed. I give up after the last exam and I failed. i want to be a nurse . I don't know what do i have to do . I want to do take the test again for the last time. Any advice and help. I appreciate it. I am from Michigan. in Michigan you can take only 3 times after that if you still did not passed. You will take a refresh ,and give you another 3 times to take.

to lyn - if you haven't passed your NCLEX test, you are not yet a nurse, be it RN or LPN. Therefore you really should not be signing LPN in your user name.

Sorry that you're having such a difficult time. Have you tried any of the review/prep courses to help you study?

Good luck to you.

Lyn - Your post indicates you may be a non native speaker (though I clearly understand what you are saying). Do you think you may be struggling with the language aspect of the test, rather than content? If so, considering working on reading comprehension in addition to basic nursing. NCLEX questions can hinge on a word or two, and even native speakers frequently misread questions.

5 times means the info is going right over your head, figure out why this is. Maybe you need to redo the program. Is it test anxiety, maybe you know the info but can't think of it for the test?
