Help...DUI and a nurse?!

Published

Help...i need to know some info on DUI and my nursing license. I am a new grad. I just started working 3 months ago. A couple of days ago I got my first DUI. I need to know what the state of California is going to do to me. Will they take my license away. Will they allow me to continue practicing? And I need to know what the policies are? What do I do or whom do I contact? If someone could help me out I would really appreciate it! I'm stressing out. Thanks!

don't know much about calif but many states will require that you take a rehab course if you get out of this with your license intact remember a ticket may have been the best thing that could happen at least it was not a horrid accident

Strongly suggest you contact the BON immediately. They are the only ones who can answer your questions.

I don't know. How high was your alcohol content. Can you fight it? I got one 15 years ago but mine was marginal and I got off. I think you will be ok if you go to a rehab but you would need to talk to the board of nurses. God Speed.

questions we seem to be encountering more and more often have to do with the effects of a criminal history on nursing licensure:

  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a criminal history?
  • is it possible to become licensed as a nurse if you have a dui?
  • what happens if you are charged or convicted of a crime after licensure?
  • can i go to nursing school and/or be licensed if my record has been sealed or expunged?

these are questions that the members of allnurses.com cannot answer. the only reliable source of information is your state board of nursing.

good luck.
