try this apothecary test:
1 ounce (oz) = 480 grains (gr)
1 ounce (oz) = 8 drams (dr)
1 dram (dr) = 60 grains (gr)
1 quart (qt) = 2 pints (pt)
1 pint (pt) = 16 fluid ounces (fl oz)
1 fluid ounce (fl oz) = 8 fluid drams (fl dr)
1 fluid dram (fl dr) = 60 minims (drops) (gtts)
1) convert 17 ounces to grains. ____________
2) convert 340 gtts to fl dr. ___________
3) 18 drams = __________ ounces.
4) 23.5 fl oz = __________ fl dr.
5) 16 drams equals how many grains? _____________
6) 3/4 pts = ___________ fl oz.
7) 7.35 quarts = ___________ pints.
8) 180 drops = ___________ fl dr.
9) 75 drams is how many ounces? ___________
10) 0.5 quarts = ___________ fl oz.
11) 30 gr = ____________ oz.
12) 0.35 fl oz = _____________ minims.
13) 0.16 ounces = ___________ drams.
14) 1 pint = ____________ quarts.
15) 960 gr = ____________ oz.

There is a book called drug calculations....process and problems for clinical practice that is very good. In order to solve drug calculations you must be able to convert grams into milligrams and kilograms or vice versa depending on what the question asked. You must also be able to change pounds into kilograms by dividing the pound by 2.2 to determine safe dose ranges. You must also be able to change standard fluids into metric as an earlier poster noted. In terms of drops per minute in IV questions or ML per hr there are formulas for that.
drops per minute---Total Volume X Drop Factor
_______________________
Total time In minutes
Example:
Antibiotics to infuse at 100mL over 30 minutes. The drop factor is 15
100ML X 15 1500
__________ ________ = 50 gtt/min
30 30
ML per hour---- total volume
__________
total time
example:
2000 ml to be infused over 24 hrs. How many mL per hours should infuse.
2000 mL
_______ 83ml/hr
24
Hope this helps
