Hi so this pass semester I failed Nursing fundamentals and I feel more confused than upset. I don't know where I went wrong. I studied and learned the material successfully but when it came to the nursing Nclex style exams I was barely passing them. I study almost 24/7 every day but not once did it reflect on the exams even though I felt really good about my answers. To my understanding Nclex questions can have more than 2 right answers you just have to select the best one for the situation to an over thinker like myself this can be a nightmare or if that wasn't the problem I notice having to re-read a lot of the questions and running low on time towards the end of the test.
During the summer break before the fall semester I planed on buying and reading a new nursing textbook but I fell like I may be wasting my time maybe Nclex test taking tips is all i need STILL NOT SURE please help
Had potter and Perry for fundamentals. My class got lucky because our exams are take home.
In regards to answering questions. I used review and rationales fundamentals then answered questions from the cd. Never opened the book. Then reviewing ATI fundamentals for proctor
I used review and rationales pathophysiology in addition to NRSNG academy. Answered a lot of questions and never opened my book.
Used review and rationales for mental health. Struggled a little and just did tons of questions for each topic. Never opened any mental health book (Townsend or ATI mental health) My ATI mental health proctor was level 2.
Answer a lot of question and read the explanation why the answer is right or wrong. Don't focus on getting high scores. Focus on correcting yourself for making mistakes. I've probably have done 5k questions and I'm only in 2nd semester out of 4.
If it helps, get the saunders nclex. This should help you throughout the program
It sounds like your problem is with test taking strategies, as others have said. I would suggest you get Kaplan as they primarily tackle test taking strategies. Honestly.... I have never read an entire chapter from Potter and Perry... skimmed, yes... but never READ. Exams are all about prioritization.
Above every exam, and on EACH PAGE, I wrote out ABC's/Maslow's hierarchy of needs/ADPIE (assess, diagnose, plan, implement, evaluate). And I would take each question and apply it to that. Its all about prioritization and SAFETY.
I graduated with honors.
any recommendations where I can do practice questions, I know there's a ton of nclex resources out there, some classmates were talking about quizlets but I can't verify the accuracy of the material so just stuck with my text book which i may not be able to use again since i've already seen and answer those questions.
Hello,
Just out of curiosity, where do you go to school? Is it an accelerated program, bsn program? Ok starting a BSN program in the fall and really would like to know if you're in Massachusetts.
Thanks!
Update
Its been a long journey with some bumps along the way but finally got through nursing school and passed my NCLEX first try. I graduated with some of the highest test scores in my class. I hope everyone is doing well. I just wanted to say thank you to all that helped me along the way. Perhaps on another post I'll talk about my NCLEX experience and what helped me (which surprisingly wasn't UWorld) so I can help others as you all did for me.

Just got all my grades in for the semester all A's except for nursing fundamentals I can't remember the last time I got a D for a class. I Know I can do this and i'm much to stubborn to let this beat me. I just have to figure which of the thousands of nursing resources out there will best help me.
