Help Destress

hi,

I am senior nursing student. For some reason, i have been reading the material needed and understanding it well enough to have discussions about the topics, but my grades do not show for these countless hours of studying and understanding. I feel as if I am doing something wrong with my study habits. I do Nclex questions almost everyday on the go on my phone and on my computer. This is very discouraging for me since I study all the time. Is there any suggestions as to how I can better my scores on exams that are NCLEX style? :crying2:

When you find out, let me know. I also know the information but when we get the test, its never what I expect. We are told exactly what is going to be on the test and it is STILL never what I expected.

Are the questions on your exams anything like the NCLEX questions you are practicing or do they seem to come out of left field? It may be that you are learning the material appropriately and the instructors are just writing bad questions.

If this is not the case, is there someone in your class who is getting good grades? Could you talk to them to see what is missing from your study?

Finally, are your grades good enough to pass but not good enough for your satisfaction? You mention that you are a senior. My last semester, it seemed like our instructors pulled out all the stops to make the tests as hard as possible. Conveniently, that coincided with my sudden, uncharacteristic refusal to shoot for an A, so it wasn't as stressful as it could have been. What I'm trying to say is that if you are passing, it's good enough. You're almost done!

maybe you are studying too much... you know when you study a lot of information at one time your brain can't seem to process that information. eventually you keep studying but either you can’t remember the information on the test or you get confused about the right answer. anyhow why don't you try studying more effectively, change your study habits. do more reviewing then studying new material all the time. also study to make connections and ask why for everything. i am going to start nursing school in jan. i am not sure how effective these tips are but i have received this advice from others. good luck!!!! :)

I was in the same boat, until I started doing the NCLEX 4000 questions and tons of ATI questions. I learned overtime that you can study all the content, but you also have to understand how the read the test question, which I was very weak in. A friend once told me that content never changes and the test bank people can only ask a question in so many ways. I spend about 2 hours a day in doing different questions and I went from a "B" to an "A". Another thing I would recommend that was told to me is right before an exam is do over 200 NCLEX questions.
