I received my letter today with the date for taking the Compass test for the LPN program at Holmes. I really don't know what to expect. I have heard people say it is a basic skills test, but I am still freaking out. I guess I am most worried about the Math. Can anyone that has taken it please tell me how hard the math is? I am sure it has plenty of Algebra, fractions and percents, but I am not sure what else. Please, help me if you can. I have to take it May 17.
Sorry yes2010 I forgot about your question. I had a 93 on reading, a 84 on English and I can't remember my Math score, but I was rec for college level Math. I was so disgusted that I threw my paper away. I don't think I will get in, but who knows. You have a shot because you are already a CNA. You get extra points for that. Good luck and please let us know when you receive your letter good or bad.
Im positive u most definitely will.. If you would have applied for lpn while you were applying for ADN program you would have been in the program.. I am so anxious to find out and its killing me since only 30 ppl are chosen I dont think that is fair, it should be at least 40 or 45.. Anywho I will be watching the mailbox next week..
Thanks so much for your kind post. I wish I was so confident. I just keep thinking only 30 people. I know they want males so they will probably pick them first. I had 2 taking the test with me. Then they will probably pick people with medical experience. Who knows how many that will be. I just hope they look at ACT scores more than the compass. Also, the classes you have taken and completed and not withdrawals. It will drive a person crazy trying to analyze all of it. I just want to know one way or the other.
There were 2 testing with me also.. I think that everyone deserves a chance because not everyone does well on tests that determine if they are accepted into a specific program or not.. I am not taking the ACT again because I cant afford to keep giving out $32 that I dont have, I am also a parent of a 16 month old and she needs things and that money can go towards diapers or anything.. I think I did well considering others saying there first try on the ACT was a 15 or 16.. I pray that I am accepted because Im ready to get a kick start in my field..
I understand your pain. I have a 16 year old that will be going to college in a couple of years so I am trying to finish mine before he starts. I have an ok ACT score, but I took it in 88 or 89. It converts to a 20 now. That is way above what the require so maybe it will help. If I don't get in this time I am not sure I will apply again next year. It would be different if they accepted every semester, but waiting another year is a long time. I could not understand why they told us that the orientation is on the 15th and that they tell us in advance so we can go ahead and ask off at work for that day. I am not wasting a vacation day unless I know I am in. Seems to me they should let you know far enough in advance if you got in so you can ask off from work, but what do I know? I try not to think about it, but it seems to consume my every thought. I may be at Whitfield before this process is over.
