I received my letter today with the date for taking the Compass test for the LPN program at Holmes. I really don't know what to expect. I have heard people say it is a basic skills test, but I am still freaking out. I guess I am most worried about the Math. Can anyone that has taken it please tell me how hard the math is? I am sure it has plenty of Algebra, fractions and percents, but I am not sure what else. Please, help me if you can. I have to take it May 17.
It was easy!!!! The first section was the reading comp. The 2nd section was for sentence structure and punctuation and the last section was Math. I will say that the Math was the most difficult for me personally. It is all Algebra. You get your scores printed as soon as you are finished. They said they will let us know by June 8. There were 29 people there to take the test with me. Each section may have 10-15 questions each, but it still took me 1 1/2 hours to take it and I was one of the first few finished. It is not timed so take your time and read everything carefully. Hope this helps!! Good Luck!!! Let me know how it goes!!
I had a 93 on reading, 84 on English and I don't remember the Math. Then it tells you what your placement rec would be. I wouldn't need a reading course because the highest reading score is 100 and I made a 93. They rec Comp 1 for English and this is the highest rec you can get. I have already had Comp 1 & 2 so I am ok there. The Math rec was College Algebra and I have had that too. It all sounds good, but who knows. They stressed before the test that the Reading is the most important part that they look at. They said the Math on the test is not really the Math you will use in class. The Math they use is grade school Math. All I can do is hope it is good enough.
It was all Algebra. I think I had 1 or 2 questions that were percents and maybe 1 fraction question. The rest were Algebra. Study square roots in algebraic expressions. Will we ever use that? Probably not, but it was on there. Make sure you know all about exponents. The square roots threw me for a loop. I am not sure I would worry as much about the Math as the reading. They really stressed that the Reading part was most important because if you can't read and comprehend then you will not make it through. Unfortunately I was sitting next to someone that can't read silently and this was very distracting. I just wanted to look over and say Shhhh. I hope this helps.
