Hello everybody.
I tried posting this once and it didn't take so I guess I am going to summarize everything I originally said.
Right now I am working on my pre-reqs for the nursing program and my local community college and am going to do a 3+1 transfer to Washington State University for my BSN.
Anyway, last year I wasn't 100% sure what I was going to do so I started working on my General AA degree until I figured out what I really wanted to do. Right off of the bat I took an Intro to Chemistry course. And boy did I fail it. Halfway through the quarter during the middle of the midterm exam I realized I had no clue what I was doing so I withdrew from the course to avoid dropping a bomb on my gpa.
Well since then I have obviously decided that nursing is my calling. The only thing is, that not only do I have to take that course again, I have to take the General Chem class that comes after it just to get into the nursing program:banghead:
And even better is the fact that at my college you have 1 chance and 1 chance only to re-take a course. After that, well you are screwed.
I think part of the problem was that I did it over the summer and it was my first quarter in college. Not only that, but the quarter was shortened to 7 weeks with all of the same material which is normally covered in the 10 week course.
So basically I am asking all of you how you got through your chemistry classes. How did you study? What websites/material did you use for help? What would you recommend me memorizing, good memorization tools, etc.
Thank you for ANY help you are willing to give me. I will love you forever for it:redbeathe. lol

Just remember to keep up with class. Read the chapters before you have lecture, and do all homework problems assigned as well as extras...and don't be afraid to ask questions on what you don't understand.
I am midway through Organic Chem, and so far, it seems to be working.
By the Way...for each hour you spend in class you are supposed to spend an additional 2-3 hours studying.
Good Luck.

I graduated 20 years ago. But I know a few things. Don't take Chemistry or Anatomy in short terms. These are the classes you want in the long terms. You have to study several hours a day, Everyday!!!!! As for sites there was no Internet when I went to College. But I am sure you can type subjects into google and find anything you need. Good Luck:yeah:

Come and check out the Chem Spring 2008 forum. There is a lot of information there that can help you to get through the class. Everyone there is very supportive and informative and make things easy to remember and help along the way.
I hope everything goes well for you. PM if you have any questions.
Thanks for all the help guys & gals!
Yeah, I know that I shouldn't have taken it during the summer. 3 weeks less time for a college level course like that is just crazy considering everything that is covered in that amount of time.

Chemistry was scary for me as well, but I ended up getting an A in it. A couple of things that I did. I did homework every day and I did the assigned and if I wasn't getting it, I did more. Lets say they assign all odd numbers if it was a particularly difficult section I would do all the problems. Also I had completed Algebra prior to taking Chemistry. There is a lot of dimensional analysis and so having the Algebra down pretty solidly helped. Good luck to you.

There is a book at your local Barns and Nobel or the like called "Chemistry Made Simple". It's kind of a "chemestry for dummies" sort of book. I couldn't have gotten through the class without it. It's not going to get you a "A", but I bet it gets you through with a passing grade.
