Published

Goodevening everyone,

I'm new to this site, however I'm residing within the caribbean and I'm a bit despondent. I've been trying to find schools that admit and enroll F1 students into their nursing programmes but it's been real difficult. The schools that I've applied to thus far states that I'm uneligible because of my immigrant status.Could someone please inform me of any schools preferably in DC,VA,MD,NY or any other state for that matter who accepts F1 student.I'm licensed as a LPN by the state of MD but I've never worked in the USA.

Looking forward to replies, thanks in advance.

Check the US state immigration website and they may list acceptable schools that meet F1 requirements. You may find it easier and cheaper to train where you are and if looking at immigrating to the US once qualified you can then check out what the current requirements will be

Thanks but still no luck so far;One college actually assigned me to AAS General Studies which is a 2 yrs programme even though I choosed Nursing as my programme of study. How is General Studies related to Nursing or is it that the GS curriculum includes courses that are relevant to nursing and would thus exempt me from doing some of the nursing courses upon acceptance into the institution's nursing programme?

Has nothing to do w the major. U just need to apply to a college/university and be accepted as an F1 student. U are able to take whatever major u choose. It's not an easy process as u have to have someone who resides in the USA sponsor u proving they can support u for the duration of your studies in the USA. You aren't allowed to work. Only part time in campus and that needs to be approved. I came to the states on a student visa. Wasn't easy but I made it work somehow. Ended up meeting my husband and getting married; thus obtaining my green card. Good luck. I suggest u speak to the schools you are interested in. Only they can guide u and tell u exactly what their school requires from you.

Unless things have changed I did not have any problems enrolling as a F1 student. That was in Washington State. I did have some issues getting licensed there though as you needed a SSN in order to get your LPN license. And to continue from LPN to RN you needed a license in order to get into the RN program. What I ended up doing was doing OPT after my LPN and through that I was able to get a SSN. Then after I was an RN it was much easier to get work authorization since I was from Canada and could apply for a TN Visa.
