Hi,
I have been offered a 12 hr night shift FT nursing position at Four Winds Hospital in Katonah, NY and was wondering how is it to work there? Any nurses out there that work there nights? If so any feed back on how it is would be greatly appreciated... Thanks ... I currently work in a state hosp. in psych but think that 12 hours at a private psych facility would be better... any feedback anyone? Hope I am making the right decision by going with the 12 hr private job... being that the state facility i am at has a load of issues its sorting out....
Hey Mesha, thanks for your feedback.... I hope you do get a position there... so far its ok... its really the drive that is dreadful and has me kind of down... I dont like to drive too far for work... i am trying to hang in there and will keep you posted. Good luck to you and again thanks for your feedback..
I interviewed there recently. You'll sit and chat with the nurse recruiter, a lovely woman who clearly knows her psych and has worked at Four Winds for a long time. It's not a high pressure interview, more a "let's get to know you" kind of thing. She'll ask what you really enjoy in nursing, what specialties interest you and why. She'll probably find a round about way to find out if you have any experience around psych patients if you've never been a psych nurse before. One thing that I screwed up was that I forgot to bring the addresses and complete contact information of my previous employers and had to sneak a call to my husband on my cell to get the info. Not so smooth. Of course I had my complete resume, clinical portfolio, professional references, etc., but they got me with the past employers. You have to fill out a card that will get mailed to each of them. Best of luck to you, and if you have any other questions, I'll see if I can help.
This is my first post so hopefully I do it correctly. I am a new nurse with only about 2 months of med surg experience. I have felt unsure about med surg nursing since preceptorship in school but decided to start there because that is where everyone says a new nurse should start. I, too, wanted to apply to Four Winds and was hoping to get some feedback from those of you already working there. Can you please tell me what a typical day shift and night shift is like and how you like working there?
I recently started working at a facility where I met a woman who worked as an RN at Four Winds. We didn't speak too much about it but I will be seeing her tomorrow and I will ask about a typical day there and how she liked it and get back to you. The only other places I've heard of are The Childrens Village in Dobbs Ferry and Green Chimneys up near the Brewster area.
Have you applied to Four Winds? Where do you currently work? You can private message me if you prefer.
But will get back to yo after I hear about Four Winds...laters
Sooo I spoke to the woman who worked at Four Winds. She worked there as a new graduate for only 7 months on the adolescent unit. She said that the shift she worked was from about 9am-9pm. It took her a while to get used to everything bc she was new and had no experience in psych and said it took a few months to get used to everything. She often had a lot of codes and did alot of restraints (I think the adolescent wing is generally tougher). What she liked most she told me was getting report in the morning and hearing about newly admitted patients and their history, which she found fascinating. I am not sure why she quit and now we work in ltc care together. IF you want to know anything specific I can ask her let me know. Hope I am of some help to you!

Hi,
I was hired there as a mental health worker and unfortunately didn't start due to my acceptance into a nursing program in NC, but my husband did work there as a mental health worker and he loved it. He always mentioned how the staff were very nice; I did have the chance to meet a few during my interview and pre-employment process. There were instances when he said some nights were hectic if a patient coded...etc. But overall he loved the job and said the training they provided was good for the job. Upon graduation in May I plan on re-applying, this time as a nurse, hopfully I'll be offered a position.
The drive is kind of dreadful at first, but you get used to it!!
Congrats and Good Luck!! Hope my little feedback helped.
