Help can anyone give me info on Four Winds Hospital in NY?

Published

Hi,

I have been offered a 12 hr night shift FT nursing position at Four Winds Hospital in Katonah, NY and was wondering how is it to work there? Any nurses out there that work there nights? If so any feed back on how it is would be greatly appreciated... Thanks ... I currently work in a state hosp. in psych but think that 12 hours at a private psych facility would be better... any feedback anyone? Hope I am making the right decision by going with the 12 hr private job... being that the state facility i am at has a load of issues its sorting out.... :specs:

One of my classmates' wife worked there as a tech. She liked it but said that many times new graduates would go there and not be prepared as it is a psych facility and things can get pretty hairy at times. But if you have psych experience I am sure you won't be caught off guard. Besides that she liked working there and thought it was a good place to work.

GL to you.

Finally thank you so much for your feedback!!! Finally someone replies to my post!:D I am starting there in Feb. and have heard good things about this place... yes i do have psych exp. and med surg as well, and like psych better... I am just concerned that if I am switching from working in a state facility to doubling my commute till i can move that it is worth it... But like I said, i have heard a lot of positive things about this place and plus the 12 hour shifts in psych are so hard to find and they do that there.... and i prefer to do 12's. If you hear any other feedback about this facility I would greatly appreciate it... thanks so much! GL to you too

Hey

I did clinicals there when I was in nursing school and I thought it was great. Not to mention the food wasn't bad either. It does get pretty hairy there but while I was there everyone seemed to work together as a team. I thought it was a great experience.

yeah?! I heard they do 12 hours... did u ever hear about how it is working nights there AnalegnaRN Female.gif? I think nites wouldnt be so bad bc I figure most all pts will be sleeping by at least 9 pm and nite shift starts at 8:30 pm.... thanks for the feed back, r u looking to work in psych as well? :nuke:

I did clinicals there, as well. Beautiful campus, not a "hospital-type" facility. Nurses are pretty laid-back, wore casual clothing...jeans, etc...the nurse I worked with really liked it there and loved her hours. She worked with the pre-adolescents. I am not sure about your shift and if patients are in bed by 9pm, especially if working with adults. Its really a "home-y" environment. I can honestly say if my interest was psych nursing, I would definitely want to work there. Best of luck with your move!

i definitely agree with the previous poster. If I were to do psych I would definitely want to do it there . Its not a hospital setting like one would expect it kind of re4minds me of camp. At this point I am interested in anyone who would give me a job :zzzzz:banghead: because I am a new grad to answer the question am I interested in psych. But I did apply there and I have to say I think it would be a good experience

Thank you so much everyone for your feedback! :yeah:I like the idea of it being a camp like and home-y environment... yes i like to work in psych and i hope that my experience here will be great.... i will keep you all posted!!!! Good luck to all!!!

Do they hire LPN's? What is the starting salary? I too have heard good things about the facility. The 12 hour shifts are what I prefer as well. Good luck!

Hey Susan what good things about 4 Winds have you heard? Do you know if they have a low turnover rate for nurses? I havent started yet... will soon, i will keep you posted if they hire LPNs... :nurse:

A girl I went to school with worked there as a mental health worker. She liked the working conditions and the facility. Ironically enough, I met a woman whose mom is the DSN at 4 Winds. She too said that is was a great facility. Sadly, my friend's mom was a patient there as well and my friend and her family were please with the care provided and the environment.

I also learned that they do not hire LPNs :o( Bummer for me. As for turnover, I am not sure, but the woman I met said that they are always looking.

If you don't mind me asking, what are they offering as a starting salary for new RN graduates? I love that their hours run from 8:30 - 9:30 - works a lot better when you have a family.

Best of luck!

pay is based on experience... $28/hr new grad i think n um $3/hr shift diff for nights. thank u so much for your feedback.. I am trying to hang in there bc for me the commute is an hour away and that worries me... will keep u posted... i hope i dont have to move :(
