  1. I am currently in the same situation. I took a leave of absence last semester to seek out a preceptor. I've called and emailed clinical sites with no luck. Those NPs that are willing to assist were too new and unable to precept me. I contacted a site Clinical Match site and have not had any results with that either. I am currently at the point of requesting for another leave of absence or dropping the idea of becoming an NP for now. I only have clinicals to complete for my degree and finding a site has been the most difficult part of this program.
  2. Hello All, I took the NCLEX-RN June 25th...had 265 questions and just knew I didnt do well! I had a lot of priority questions, SATA, infection control, drugs I never heard of! I came home and searched the website for all the threads on nclex and the "PVT"...I used it, just to calm my nerves a little...and IT WORKED! I was able to pay for my quick results lastnight (June 27th) and was so happy to see that little word PASS! Congrats to all of you that took it and passed...and good luck to all that will be taking it soon!

  4. AW The interview was pretty laid back to me. I'm in the military, so a lot of the questions were geared towards my military experience and other background. They also ask basic interview questions: How you you/coworkers/managers/friends describe you? I clearly remember being asked all those questions. Also about work experience...how to handle a difficult situation? Not sure if this is still required, but I had to type an essay in I believe 30 mins. I was surprised that I was able to finish it so quickly. The interview wasn't hard a all. Of course I was a bit nervous when I got there, but I got over it! I wish you the best of luck with the scholarship and the program. There will be a lot of frustrating moments (especially during the first semester), but in the end, its worth it! Graduation is in one week, and I'm still surprised that a year went by so fast! Good luck again and if you have any additional questions, just let me know! KM
  5. Hey, I was in your shoes not too long ago! I was in my 2nd year of medschool and it wasn't going well. Before I decided to take my chances and continue, I looked at my options (PA or RN). And stressed myself out. I finally decided on switching to nursing school and I will never regret the change. I will agree with other readers, nursing isn't something to just "fall back" on if your not liking/enjoying medschool, and you should think hard before you make your decision. In a few weeks I will be graduating with my BSN and I still think to myself, "I would've been graduating from medschool (had I stayed)! I chose to do an accelerated program....Not Easy at all! Overall, I didn't just "choose" nursing...I've realized that I enjoy the medical profession more as a nursing student than a medical student. I wish you the best of luck in your decision and hope your family supports your choice!
  6. Hi, I was hired there as a mental health worker and unfortunately didn't start due to my acceptance into a nursing program in NC, but my husband did work there as a mental health worker and he loved it. He always mentioned how the staff were very nice; I did have the chance to meet a few during my interview and pre-employment process. There were instances when he said some nights were hectic if a patient coded...etc. But overall he loved the job and said the training they provided was good for the job. Upon graduation in May I plan on re-applying, this time as a nurse, hopfully I'll be offered a position. The drive is kind of dreadful at first, but you get used to it!! Congrats and Good Luck!! Hope my little feedback helped. Mesha
  7. Congrats Mistydale!! Im still patiently hoping and waiting!
  8. I feel he same way shannahan, we have to finish regardless!!!!! I'll be done in May!!! I think all the applications have been reset. The due date has also changed to May 2010. The process begins again!!! Congrats again to everyone that got the scholarship....and good luck to everyone reapplying next year!!
  9. Hey, Has anyone heard or received anything?
  10. I can still log in. I've been going back all day to see if anything would change!
  11. This really is an obsession! I cant even sleep good because im constantly thinking about an email to let me know if I've been accepted or denied! This wait is really ridiculous and so many of us are depending on this scholarship!!! I have a paper due tomorrow, yet my brain in focused on my email inbox...thinking maybe I'll get the email this late!!! Good Luck again everyone!
  12. Congrats to everyone that was chosen for the scholarship! Hopefully I will be just as lucky (fingers crossed)...I'm still waitng! :-(
  13. Hey MotivatedOne, Queens extended the deadline for applications in order to have more students in the program. Classes start May 18th! Kemeshia
  14. Hey gdubb, Any news yet from Admissions?? As for finaid, my scholarship is all I'm getting. My stafford loans were maxed out during my 2 years of medical school and since I am now an undergrad student again my federal loan limits have been reduced. I'll be paying the rest of tution out of pocket and continuing to apply for various scholarships and grants for the 2009-10 semester. Kemeshia
  15. Well your proactiveness sure has paid off. I have been researching Queens website as well as spoken to a finaid counselor at the univesity and things are looking up for me as far as finding funding. I'll keep you posted on everything. It's good to know from your experience that the staff is pretty proactive in getting back to students so hopefully I will have the same experience and know something very soon. Wow, we have so much in common. The next thing your going to say is that we have the same astrology sign (lol). We moved here from Maryland 2 years ago. Your right UNCC is extremely competitive to get into and it's also 2 years in length with no option to take summer courses to speed up the program so thank goodness for Queens despite the high price tag but at least we will be done before we know it, just in and out, short and sweet (well maybe not the sweet part, I should say short and intense lol). I have plans to be an NP also. Either Peds or OB and then I want to go on to get my DNP also so I can teach. Or I have even thought about some sort of Hospital administration. I love it b/c there are just so many options for nurses that's why I am so anxious to begin a program. I sometimes wish I would have figured all this out at the age of 18 (lol). So I'm very thankful for programs for 2nd degree students, they are a life saver :redbeathe. Now lets talk about this marriage, girl congratulations!!!! It will be hectic im sure with school but I believe there will be a 3-4 wek break before the fall term begins so you can just woo-saw and take a nice, much needed and deserved honeymoon vacation. You will be on cloud nine :redbeathe One last question if you don't mind, are you familiar w/any hospitals in the area that offer student loan repayment plans as part of your benefits package? Just in case I have to end up taking out quite a bit in loan funds I was just wondering if any hosppitals helped pay them back? Thanks for these chats, I so very much enjoy them Hey gdubb Yes it does seem like we have a lot in common! I feel the same as you about figuring all this out when I was 18, but back then I was only dreaming of med school! But I really think I'm going to love nursing! There is a break before the fall term starts, that will give me some time to rest and get settled and then get ready for the new semester!! Looking forward to it! I'm not too familiar with hospitals that offer student loan repayment, but I'm sure CMC-Main or Northeast should offer something to students since they're teaching hospitals. Talk to you soon! Kemeshia
