Ok, well I completed CEU's online back when it was time to renew my license in November 2014, but now I can't seem to access my certificates and the company I completed them with can't seem to find my account!! I can't find my printed copies either due to the craziness of life over the past 2 years: my mom passing away, me getting a divorce, losing my home to foreclosure due to my psychotic ex-husband lying to me about paying the mortgage while he was having an affair right under my nose...now I get a letter saying I'm being audited for CEU's that I can't find because I've been moving a lot lately and trying to get my life back on track. I know I should have been more careful with CE's and such, but I literally was a nervous wreck and I asked myself everyday, "How am I a nurse when it's so hard to take care of myself right now?"
Anyway. The letter says I have 30 days to turn in CEU's from from 2012 to 11/2014, but I know I can't provide that during that time periods. If I complete the 30 hours they are asking for NOW, will they still accept it? Do I have to pay a fee of some sort? Will I be fined? Will this be on my record? I am so stressed out...I am in CA if that makes a difference...

Can you try once more with the provider where you've completed your CEU's to see if they can find your certificates? Otherwise, you will need to complete those hours within the next 30 days. Usually the BON will accept them.
If they ask, explain what happened.
Thank you joanna73. I've already completed a new set of 30 CEU's and mailed it back to the BRN. It's not within the time frame they are asking for because it's completed February 2015, but we'll see what they say. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get fined or have some sort of disciplinary action occur. I can't use any more bad news in my life right now!

I hope you also explained to the BRN what your situation was at the time, and what efforts you've made to recover the missing CEUs; otherwise, it just looks like you lied to them back in 2014 (said, when you renewed, that you had completed the CEUs but you hadn't). Have you discussed your situation with someone at the board? Can the on-line company offer any support (like verify that you did have an account with some CEUs that they have lost -- has this happened to anyone else who was using them for continuing ed?) I would be v. transparent with the BRN. The last thing you want is for them to get the impression that you just didn't bother to meet the requirements and are trying to make up for that now (just) because you're being audited.

I wonder if you could search your credit card history for confirmation of payment or check your email history for an email of payment confirmation then send to the company?

worst case scenario - you pay a fine and you complete 30 hours of CE. You will survive that, so save your stress for bigger things.

I dunno---- in my state if a person cannot provide proof of the 45 CEUs we are required *IN THE SPECIFIED TIME PERIOD* (meaning you can't just go and do them) , they threaten your license.
If I were you, I would do anything I could to get the CEU provider you used to get that proof, if you have to call and hound them. If your state is as harsh as mine, you stand to have your license suspended, not just pay a fine and be done with it.
I was audited this year, and had to provide proof of 45 CEU from 2011 to 2014---- so I know what they can/will do if I could not have provided proof. This is serious business.
I called the company I did the CE's with, they have record that I paid for the class in September 2014, but they're saying their computer records show I didn't complete the course!! I know I completed the course because I did the questions and got my score at the end. Now they say they can't do anything because their computer system says I didn't complete it!! I am so angry...anyway, should I call and talk to someone at the board? I can certainly provide proof that I paid for CE's in September 2014....oh man, I am stressing out so much now...
I did this already, but they are still saying that I didn't complete the course even though they have proof that I paid for the course. Now it's my word against theirs and they won't do anything to help me. Guess I'm screwed...
Yes, I've sent them an email explaining my situation and my attempts to retrieve my certifications. I also explained the hardships I have gone through the past 2 years and if they would take that into consideration. I keep trying to call so I can speak to an actual person, but their lines are always busy and it's just an automated recording telling me to try to call back again. Boy am I nervous...has anyone ever lost their license over late CEU's?

By all means, call and talk to somebody at the Board! Print proof of payment in September and send this in another letter of explanation. Send it via email and by snail mail, return receipt requested. Meanwhile, keep trying to get through on the phone. If you want to, send them a fax too.
