Hello, any medical assistant out there?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

I have a friend who told she enrolled in school for medical assistant. I was asking which school she chose and then we got to how much it's going to to cost her. I was shocked to know she had to take a student loan of $21000 for her classes. Isn't that ridiculous? It's about $4000-ish at my local technical college. I knew it would be higher since it's a private college but still. The red other red flag is she's enrolled with no high school diploma or GED. Isn't that required? So if there's any actual medical assistant out there, please enlighten me.

Yes, that's expensive considering the amount she'll make working as a medical assistant. It's sad, but not uncommon. There are nursing programs that are equally outrageous in cost.

I feel like she may be doing the medical assistant program which offers AAS so she's really getting a degree along with the certification.

Specializes in LTC, Rehab, Vascular Telemetry, Med Surg.

I am a medical assistant. And it sounds like the school she is attending is scamming her big time. She should of went to a community or technical college. Even though they allowed her to get her education without a high school diploma, most doctor's offices will require a high school diploma for employment. Wow that "school" sounds shady.

Specializes in Pediatric specialty.

Even if shes getting a degree that is ridiculous! I know a girl who got a degree to be an MA and I got a certification. Her schooling was 2 years, mine was 6 months. I make more then her. Sounds like your friend is going to the wrong school.
