Is nursing for me? Having trouble in anatomy?
Dont be discouraged. The first time I was introduced to Anatomy I was completely shocked and mad at the world. I was so upset that society has lied to us. Lol. I was like so it's not head shoulders knees and toes like we learned in grade school. It's cranium, scapula clavicle humerus, patella and phalanges... But you would see why they didn't teach us as such. Anatomy 1 is the basics, and once you get that you will understand 2 even better. Pictures help out a lot. Look at the body as a puzzle and focus on small pieces at a time. Then put the puzzle together that's how it helped me. Flash cards with pictures helped too. YouTube has khan university that helped. Google has images that also helped. Wikipedia isn't as bad as people make it it sure helped me. You can't get it just leaving class thinking it will stick because when you go back to class again you will remember nothing trust me. It's a new language and you will be fine. Don't doubt yourself. You will do great. Since we are in the social media age, I follow nurses, doctors, and anything health so that's on my timeline and I'm not distracted. You can do it. Also there is an app called essential anatomy. It has layers of the body from bones, to muscles, to body systems. Start small and go big. Just like you started with an atom, start with bones a naked skeleton and once you know all the bones the muscles are a peice of cake and so fourth.

MA or CNA or LPN- Currently MA Student
I would totally take that into consideration as well. I really like more care than administrative and I dont think I would be a great boss I'm more of a team player. Thank you for your help too! I'll keep you updated on my journey. I'm so happy so found this site!

MA or CNA or LPN- Currently MA Student
In all honesty I "want" to cure people. I care for people who are not well. I'm happy in my cosmetology field and I took medical assisting up just to grab a logical degree since I'm 27, New York is currently being gentrified and cosmetology is not a lucrative career for me anymore. In New York your best bet is Law, Finance, or Medical. I chose medical. I didnt know I would like the science as much as I do but I actually love everything about the human body and how it works. I want stability, cosmetology is not stable for me now. I know I can't essentially "cure" as a nurse, I guess that's more of a doctor's job..but I feel like If I become an RN I would be seeking a manager position, that I don't want. I just want to help people feel better, that are sick, comfort people who are down, make people happy even though they are feeling bad maybe that's more psychological. I am confused at this point thanks for noticing. And my mom says the same thing "you don't know what you want" it kind of makes me all nervous because I don't wanna make a mistake... or the wrong choice.

So, I'm in a medical assistant program. I'm contemplating on staying in it. I'm seeing some reviews on CNAs and LPNs and maybe that isn't the right choice for me, although I want to become a nurse because I like to be more hands on with the patients than administrative. Here are half the classes I took and some I'm taking now. I will finish an August 19' then I was thinking to go to get my BSN. Hopefully some of these credits transfer, because if they dont, ill just keep my career as an MA. The job basically consists of administrative tasks, EMR, taking vitals, rooming patients, billing and insurance verification, phlebotomy, etc. almost like Hosting the patients and preping them. I wish to be more hands on with the customer as far as patient "care". Ive heard BSN is straight paperwork and managing. I'm not babysitting and I dont want to be anyone's boss so maybe LPN is better than RN. I dont care about the money, I just wanna do somthing I love, and some of these nurses look stressed.. lolz also I seen the beef with MAs and RNs, RNs get mad when people refer to MAs as nurses, but they have a waaaay bigger scope of practice, so idc where the confusion would take place. I think LPNs have more flexibility in their schedule right? Medical Terminology Anatomy 1 and 2 Clinical 1 and 2 Phlebotomy Medical Administration Medical Law and Ethics Pathology & Pharmacology Document Processing Medical Finance ICD-CM Coding 1 CPT Coding 2 Devolpmental Psycology When done I will have: Associates in Applied Science Phlebotomist CPC (certified professional coder) I think we can be pretty flexible with those choices, plus I'm a licensed cosmetologist for 8 years already so, you see where I can fit.. dermatology, oncology, plastics etc...

Hello, any medical assistant out there?
I feel like she may be doing the medical assistant program which offers AAS so she's really getting a degree along with the certification.

MA or RN
So... this is a no brainer I know, nurses get paid more and they have more education. Okay cool. But I have an issue because I'm already stuck in a medical assistant program I started last year. I will get an associates in applied science, and a CMA, but I feel like its not what I really want. I really want my BSN and I feel like I'm cheating myself. I just wanna know what would you do if you were in my shoes? 1. Drop out of the MA program and join a BSN program asap 2. Finish my AAS and get my CMA then go to nursing while working in the hospital 3. Finish the MA program and work as an MA (35-40k salary NYC) My circumstances Single mom 27 (sons 9 so in school also) Grew up in NYCHA, Now in Sec 8 (can you believe you cant be a full time student on section 8, its like saying HERE! I'll pay your rent for life if you stay poor! Disgusting so I'm kinda sneaking to go to school now) Working in part time in a hair salon (I'm a licensed cosmetologist) went to beauty school after highschool.. Being in the beauty industry has taught me I really care about people, some clients would vent to me about their health problems and I wish I could help them more, and many of my clients told me I would make a wonderful nurse or doctor. I'm not going to school for 50 years to be a doctor thats totally out of the question lol. But I feel like I could really support me and my son being a nurse. The hours are flexible just like the salon, I can work long weekends and work while my son is in school. Also with a beauty background, I felt it would be amazing if I could go into the dermatology/plastics/aesthetics/oncology field because I'm really good with helping people exteriorly. (And also helping interiorly) I also thought this would be a great oppurtunity to be able to make wigs for cancer patients as well as being able to help out with skin services with burn patients, and skin pathology which I have experience in being a cosmetologist. I just feel like medical assistants scope of practice is dull. It's basically doctors little helper aka slave, a bunch of paperwork, EHRs, meaningful use, and I want to do so much more...I dont know what to do lolz. Please help! Here's a list of schools I looked at: LIU St Phillips CSI Monroe Fordham New Rochelle Classes in the MA program are like A&P 1,2 Pharmacology and Pathology Medical Terminology Law and Ethics Medical Administration Develpmental psychology 2 clinicals phlebotomy Osha writing, math, and research classes I have took all. I would be finished August 2019. I can get a job in a med spa already they would hire me as an medical assistant because of my cosmetology license my title would be esthetition. But I can literally get that job now with no MA certificate. It's so confusing. Well thanks for reading my book if you did lolz I'm just so lost
