Wow! This is my first time :roll ! What fun! I am a PACU RN in the great state of Missouri! I love my work (most days), and think this is the best area of nursing . I have an amazing husband and an equally amazing little boy. Life has been good to me. I look forward to chatting with you all!

Well, hi right back at ya!

I have been working in PACU areas for nigh on 21 years, although I have done some anaesthetic nursing as well, which is different here in Australia compared to in the USA.

We don't have nurse anaesthetists over here, we are there to assist the anaesthetist.

I found this website by accident on the weekend, and found it to be really refreshing to browse through.

Nice to meet a fellow PACU nurse.

Cheers from downunder!

Hi!

I work in PACU, too. I have 2 daughters, but they are adults.

I also have 1 son-in-law. As you can see, I'm pretty new to the discussion board set. Perhaps we can share stories sometimes.

:roll

Hi, I am a PACU RN from Ohio. I love my job! I have been in PACU for 4 yrs. This is the best job in the hospital.:D

Hi. I am an RN in the Pacu in Ohio. I work with the other user name Kyti.

Working in the Pacu is a great job compared to other areas in the hospital. I consider myself lucky (most days). :chuckle

Storey, where in Missouri are you? I'm near St. Louis.

Hi Sharann and everyone. I also live in So. Cal. I am starting orientation this week in the PACU. Our hospital does brain surgery, open hearts, transplants & everything in between. Also peds.(I've never worked with peds.) I'm kinda nervous. :imbar Any tips? I have a few years critical care experience.

Hi Sharann and everyone. I also live in So. Cal. - Riverside. I am starting orientation this week in the PACU. Our hospital does brain surgery, open hearts, transplants & everything in between. Also peds.(I've never worked with peds.) I'm kinda nervous. :imbar Any tips? I have a few years critical care experience.

You will enjoy PACU! I know your critical care exp will bode you well. The main differences I see in PACU are that we go straight for airway as our primary focus, then to cardiac. ICU tends to have more of a cardiac focus(which makes them great cardiac experts). Also, the need to maintain body temp is so important! No stripping the pt down to assess them straight post op. We assess then cover, assess and cover...like a massuesse, exposing a bit at a time.! PEDS, well, they are like learning vetrinary medicine to me. I am used to them now, but they scared me at first! Kids are not small adults, they are like another species..but are a fun challenge.

I met some RN's from Riverside hosp when I took my CPAN exam. They seemed to enjoy what they do.

Specializes in Surgical, PACU.
