I just decided to become a nurse (again) about 1 1/2 years ago. My grandmother (who was more like a mother to me) was diagnosed w/ terminal ovarian cancer and I had the honor of being able to help care for her in her last days. I had always been afraid of death until I watched her die with her dignity and without pain. Watching the strongest woman I had ever met die with her dignity, showed me that death wasn't scary.

My family always wanted me to finish my education (I have a AA and I have less than 1 1/2 years left to get my BA in communications) so I thought that nursing would be a wonderful way for me to help people and to pay back for all the wonderful things that people have done for me. WHen I first started school I wanted to be a nurse, but changed my mind about a year into college. Now I think that I'm ready for this wonderful (and scary) ride.

Well, I always loved to watch cuts heal when I was little! I was a weird child! I always admired my grandma and my mom so much, and they are both nuses. I loved to watch my mom interact with her patients. She didn't just help them heal physically, but emotionally and spiritually too. I want to be that nurse like my mom, the one who will change your life forever!

I had my first son at age ninteen, two months premature due to toximia. I was in the hospital for four days on bed rest then I had four seizures, had emergency ceaseran. It happend so fast I had never heard of toximia, I also at ninteen wasnt ready to care for a premature baby. The doctors never really explianed what happened, nor did they really take to the time to explain anything about my son. It was the nurses who explained every thing to me. They arragned for me to stay at the hospital after I was discharged, so I could stay with my baby. They brought comfort and compassion to me in what was the scarriest time of my life. I began to think about carreers that I would like to pursue, and after managing resturants and listening to people complain about the smallest little things, I decided that I wanted a career with a purpose and a meaning. I wanted to make a differance, I want to give people the same compassion and reassurance that I expereniced with the birth of my son. So hopefully, in two more years I will be an RN, I will have completed my pre-reqs this years and I am currently applying to programs for the fall.

:nurse: hi i'm writing you from italy.i'm just finishing my studies this year and hope that next december i'll work as a nurse .three years ago i had to choose what to study :to continue studying english or become a nurse. primarily i must admit i chose nursing because it promitted me no difficulties to find a gob in a future.but now after tree years of a hard work (I study and work at the same time) i can say that i have no regrets of my choice. anywhay when you see that you're doing something to help someone even in the smallest things -that gives me a great positive charge for a long time!!!
