I am an operating room nurse in Northern California. Our OR Director(who is an RN) is possibly going to be fired and the administrators are going to replace her with a non-licensed employee. Can an unlicensed employee be in charge of a clinical Department? Are there any laws that I can refer to to clarify this?
Thanks
JoAnn

I cannot answer your question due to my lack of knowledge on the issue.
However, I'm a native Californian who simply wanted to warmly welcome you!

Do a search on this subject. I know not to long ago there was a thread related to this. I think, might be mistaken, that the consensus was, YES, a non-licensed person can actually be a Director of a clinical department. I know I would only work for someone that has walked in my shoes for as long as I have. I know there are many well qualified individuals that could run an OR from a management aspect without really knowing the clinical side of it.
