Hello Ladies and Gents!,
Havent posted in a while...I think i may have posted many moons ago regarding relocating from NY to TX...but ...it wasnt as specific as this thread i will post...I may sound like many other "relocating" posts but here it goes!...lol..bear with me!..I am an LPN now..god willing i will be graduating with my RN (ADN) degree in May of 2010...the hubby begins his RN program in January of 2010...this will take him 2 yrs (god willing) to accomplish...now this is our "plan"...we have been on the issue of relocating back and forth now for a couple of years as far as where we want to "settle"...NY for the most part i love..i love the four changes of the seasons and i love the suburban areas about 30-45 outside the new york city...far enough away from the hustle and bustle yet close enough to get a decent salary..now we've looked at some homes in tx and of course they are gorgeous and seem very affordable...here in new york they are pretty expensive...400k if you want a decent colonial or even a raised ranch up here...taxes are a killer...we have a 6 yr old son and do plan to expand our family...now this is it...we do plan on putting down a very nice down payment on a 350k- 400k (or less) on a home (in tx if we do decide to move in about a couple yrs (more so three)..we are an interracial couple...my husband is from the islands (jamaican) and i am hispanic american...we would love to buy a nice home in the suburbs where it is commutable to a city or where pay for an RN is acceptable...in NY a new grad RN starts at 72k-74k/yr thats a typical 3 12hr shift..i know it is ALOT lower for TX...though i have heard that you may get paid close to 30..i do not plan on working in hospitals forever...my husband and i are pretty open to LTC, Hospitals, etc..actually hubby prefers ER or ICU...sorry for the loooong post but can anyone suggest which city is "interracial friendly?"...great schools (good football..lol for my lil one who plays), and where the pay can be as close to perhaps 28-30/hr?...also where the four seasons can still be seen...i know it will not be as harsh as it is up north but its still nice to feel a cool breeze and where i may wear my jeans and my boots..:heartbeat...we were looking @ the Austin Area...any other suggestions will be GREATLY APPRECIATED:heartbeat...thank you so much!
I am a Texas nurse, went to TWU moved to Mississippi for now but MISS HOUSTON:cry:.. I found it interesting that purpleLVN felt that the property taxes where too High.. I am in Miss, and they are real proud of their homes as well.. I guess its what we get use to..
Houston is a great place for nursing.. so many hospitals and any kind of speciality you can imagine.. great for agency as well.. I miss it.
many nursing schools as well.. there are at least 4 in Houston, I am jealous lots of opportunities.. enjoy!!
