heart & kidneys question

Published

What is the importance of the heart having the ability to influence urine formation in the kidneys?

Is this a homework question? I see it's your first post..

Important concept, and I'm not the best at explaining things unfortunately..

The heart pumps blood through the body, right? Then that blood goes into the kidneys and the kidneys filter out wastes and excess that the body doesn't need which is then turned into urine. The kidneys also regulate blood pressure and fluid/electrolyte balance.. If the heart is not functioning properly, there's a good chance the kidneys are having problems as well.

The heart has a key hormonal role in regulating kidney function/fluid balance. Not gonna do your homework for you! :p

How does the kidney work? How much blood has to go though the kidney every minute (hour, etc.)? What happens if the kidney does not get enough blood flow? How can the kidney control that? What does the heart have to do with that? What would happen if a person has a weak heart?

Generally speaking, on AN when a student has a homework question, we ask that they tell us what they already know, rather than just asking for an answer they can copy and paste into their assignment. The more helpful posters will ask you leading questions to draw you along to finding out the answers, because a huge part of nursing (they probably haven't told you this in school yet) is learning how to be a life-long learner.

So, take those generously-offered hints and then come back, tell us what you learned, and ask for clarification of anything that confuses you or seems incomplete. You'll be the best on the block on cardiac/renal interaction in a trice.

Did you take A&P? What did you learn about the Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system? How does blood pressure effect kidney function, and what role would the heart have in that?

Think about the relationship between blood flow and kidney function....Good luck!

I hope the OP comes back
