It's a holistic thread, talking about all apects of health, not just diet and exercise, but the mind and spirit as well. I was looking forward to another salad for dinner and whined because I didn't have any lettuce left. I still cut up a fresh organic beet and ate some of that raw. I recently read that beet juice is good for the blood pressure. I had black beans and brown rice with a bit fat chipotle pepper and my mouth is on fire.
Walked the dogs but otherwise going to watch some TV tonight and call it a day.
Tweety, I've never had a raw beet before, I'm sure it's very...crunchy . I do like them roasted, though.
Zoe, plantar fasciitis? I think I've got a touch of that myself--ouch. Have you tried stretching? I've heard not to go barefoot, but I'm not sure why. I hope you recover quickly.
Walked to the little league game yesterday. Pushed the stroller up the steepest hill (unpaved); about 2/3 up, it finally occurred to me to have my 28 pounder walk instead of being pushed :smackingf. Sure made the rest of the hill a lot easier :). My arms have been feeling it all day. That's good, though, an inadvertent workout :).
I'm liking raw beets better than cooked. Kind of like I like raw carrots better than cooked.I had plantar facitis for about this months this past yeaR. I haven't 100% recovered and it may be a chronic thing. I self-treated. I did stretching, motrin and orthotic inserts by Dr. Sholls.
I love raw beet grated into a salad, along with raw carrot. It makes it look so pretty and adds a different flavor and texture!
All right, the two of you have convinced me that raw beets will be in my future :).
Tweety, I hope your PF is not chronic and that it gets all the way better soon. It's a hard thing to recover from; you can't really rest your feet all that much and I'm not sure that would be a good idea, even if you could. I have noticed that the type of shoe I wear makes a big difference; slides are not so great; unfortunately they're a particularly cute style of shoe

I'm sorry to hear that, Tweety. Although I am not positive of how to treat this, I am wondering if it is like the achilles tendonitis that I had last year. For that I have to use the RICE method: rest, ice, compression, and elevation.
I don't know if this is helpful or not. I hope it is.

I'm sure the wt doesn't help my PF. I've lost 8 lb already! Haven't even made it to the gym but I have been more active, and eating better.
Definitely a good workout it sounds like, 28 lb uphill? wow!

I don't even know what a beet looks like, or how to prepare it. Used to eat CANNED beets when I was a kid, hated them but you know moms.
Sore today. Put in 4.5miles yesterday walking: including hills. Unhappy right great toe.
Good for you!
What's wrong w/ your toe?
Hi Zoe,
I think it is a sore joint in the toe due to overuse. At least 1/3 of the walk is uphill. Tomorrow I will probably be on the treadmill at our community club house. That way I can get in the exercise without hurting the toe. What I really need to do is my exercise video as it helps to tone muscles while you lose weight. The trainer on the video is funny. But alas, I miss Richard Simmons. His television program was my introduction to fun fitness and knowing I could exercise at any size. I felt more self-acceptance when working out with his televised fitness programs.
