If one were to read the Constitution one would realize that the Constitution does not grant anyone freedoms, liberties, or rights. The Constitution only protects freedoms, liberties, and rights from transgressions on part of the government. A right is something that is inherent to the individual, comes from that individual, and is maintained by the individual. You are born with such rights like the right to speak freely, the only thing that can be done to that right is to have it infringed. No one can grant a right to another, only limit or impede the exercise of that right.
Healthcare is a human invention that does not exist in the natural environment. Only through the work of others and through the taking of resources from one party and giving to another does healthcare exist. You cannot force someone to give effort and resources to another and call that a right. In the absence of human intervention the individual would live their lives and succumb to the natural forces which would act upon their bodies.
Do I think we should provide preventative care and basic primary care? Sure. Do I think that we can? Maybe. Do I think that healthcare is a basic human right? Absolutely not.
Well other than irrational, do you have any other reason to offer for the response I got? It seemed pretty angry to me, and since I in no way attacked her, she had no reason to react that way at me. And I didn't say she needed to see a psychiatrist. I said she needed to see a specialist. There are tons of different kinds of specialists.Maybe I considered it a low blow to be told to leave the country when I went about coming here the legal way.
I didn't say you were wrong. Didn't say you weren't justified. I might even have responded the same as you.
However, your response was complete without throwing in the last line.

Oh all right, I'll apologize about the specialist comment. I still think it, but I'll take back saying it. Is it ok to say she should explore the source of her anger then?
Why? Are you an anorexic(nope, love food too much for that!), Chanel wearing(I wish, would be better than my current wardrobe!), howler of crap songs (some might say I howl when I try to sing)?
But ok, I get who you are referring to now too. And as a Quebecer, I'll admit to liking some of her songs lol. I blame my mom for that though. I also blame her for exposing me to Donny Osmond, so her taste in bad music is international!
I think the "every man for himself" statement is a little pejorative. I believe a more accurate statement would be that regardless of your socioeconomic status at birth, hard work and intelligent decisions will allow you to better your station in life. If I remember right, I believe this idea is influenced by Puritan/Protestant ideals, fruits of your labor and all.
It is too bad that our health care system was set up to be very profitable for insurance companies, with costs rising faster than any other commodity. Many people, even if they work hard, work several jobs, and are obtaining as much education as their abilities will allow for cannot qualify for a job that will qualify them for health insurance. So many Americans seem to believe that it is a God-given right to get cheap food, cheap hamburgers, cheap labor, and cheap crap from China, the people that work to sell us these things are just invisible. They have lives, dreams, hopes, just like any of us. But, we try to pretend that they do not exist, as it MIGHT bother our consciences. Then, there are those that don't HAVE a conscience to bother.
The discussion is healthcare, not immigration, anyway. Besides, nursing is portable and that's a great thing. People can work where they choose. For the record, there are many Americans working in Canada, so it goes both ways.
True, but I find it ironic for immigrants who are taking American jobs to complain about immigrants taking American jobs.
