Any runners???

Nurses Stress 101

Published

I was wondering if there were any runners among us...... I used to run a LONG time ago........ it all came to a crashing halt when I was playing coed softball and was slammed by a runner coming home and I was carried off on a stretcher with a torn ACL.... (they were out though! )

Anyway, I want to get back to it, and I am not finding my motivation very well. Any ideas???

Love running. I have tapered off a bit since I started swimming. Ran a marathon back in 2003, would love to do it again. Triathlon in the near future, hopefully.

Add biking and you are ready for the Triathelon. They are fun also. You meet such nice people.

I love running! I have found its the only exercise that really keeps me lean and toned. I feel so good after a good run. I listen to my ipod and use that time for not only my physical health, but my mental health as well. Just start off slow and set mini goals for yourself. You'll be amazed at how quickly your body will snap back into shape! Good luck!

I run anywhere from 25-45 miles a week...currently in training for the Chicago Marathon.

I loooove running. Most coworkers just think I'm crazy.

Congrats. Nothing beats that feeling when you cross the finish line, the sense of accomplishment. Very gratifying indeed. I do not see myself ever quitting running.

I love this thread. I for one have NEVER ran in my life. I'm 40, overweight and just plain disgusted with myself. But I started to jog about 3 weeks ago. So far I do walk/jog and the last time I did it was on a 1/3 mile track. Went 4 times around and for 1/3 of it I actually jogged. Mind you it's a slow jog but I didn't pant like I was dying from it and I felt good. I'm just concerned that I'll never get to a place where I can jog consistantly and with endurance.

Take your time

Be patient

Might be wise to consult your doctor about this new endeavor

Good luck to you

I'm a nursing student and I love running. I always wanted to run track in high school, but I always felt like I was behind the others & didn't do as well as them. For the past 6 years I've been running (only in the summers) 2 or so times a week only for 1 mile. I've been working w/ a personal trainer for the past month & have had counseling sessions (because of depression & anxiety) - & they both tell me that I need to push myself to a longer distance. I've increased my distance 1/2 mile since last week!! I wasn't even THAT tired when I was finished. I was like :yeah:(cheering) for myself. There's this running club that I want to join in town and the distance that memebers run in is 5 miles, but I don't know if we can walk some & run some - however I am super excited to meet some people.

Nice work to those of you starting out...keep it up:up:

I started jogging by accident when I was 40 -- I'd been walking fast on the treadmill and eventually kicked it up until I was jogging! I had always been overweight, since childhood, so I was never an atheletic type. I started losing weight about 5 years ago and then exercising about 4 years ago. Ran a 5K and felt Fab at 40!

Last year I slacked off on running due to sore knees, need for new shoes that I didn't want to spend money on, and very busy school/work schedule. And gained about 10 lbs over several months. Now I'm back to running.

So I'm starting slowly with a schedule to run/walk over about 7 wks' time and work up to running for 35 minutes, which makes for at least a 5K.

I'm just getting back into it, too...I recommend the couch to 5K plan (c25k.com)--there is corresponding music on iTunes for each week of program...so you alternate walking/running and build up to running the 5K. I have trouble finding motivation at times, too, but feel great once the workout is over.

I went on vacation for 1 week & did not exercise. Before I left I was running like 1.5 miles 4 days a week. I have been back for about 6 days now. Sunday evening I went for a run, my 1st time running since I came back from vacation. I ran 2.4 miles!!:yeah: I wasn't even that tired at the end. I have been continuing to do that Mon, Tues(break), Wed, & Tonight.

I started walking about 2 years ago and progressed to jogging on my treadmill then I stopped a few months ago and gained 10 pounds. I love the feeling I get after jogging 30 minutes on a treadmill. I have made up my mind today to start running again and want to sign up for Disney's 5K in March.

I have to transition from the treadmill to the road. Anyone living in Kissimmee florida interested in training for the 5K? Send me a pm
