Health Problems for new born babies

Published

Hi, I have to put down 3 potential heath problems for a newborn baby born by c-section. I have come up with two: impaired fetal gas exchange related to maternal hypertension, risk for infection and I can't think of another one. Most of babies born by c-section could have respiratory problems. Any more suggestions? Thanks!

I would focus on respiratory problems as that is the biggest problem with c-section babies. Also, possible underdevelopment problems. A lot of moms now are having scheduled c-sections at 38-39 weeks when the baby isn't necessarily ready to be born. That's why you get lots of respiratory problems. An early baby could also have a latching problem with breastfeeding, although I'm not sure what the nursing diagnosis would be on that on as I'm a very new student.

Hm. No idea, we haven't covered this yet. On a semi-related note, though, my mum is a solicter who works for the government department that deals with children who are wards of the state etc. She had a baby born two days ago with a total of five fingers (three on one hand, two on the other), external stomach, no ankles (bizarre) and severe brain damage r/t mother's medications to control her schizophrenia. What nursing diagnosis you'd use for that, I have no idea. A whole list, I guess

I agree with the 1st poster. A lot of times c-section babies are born too early due to scheduling for the convenience of the Dr. Also...early or not a c-section makes it harder to breastfeed due to not being able to nurse the baby right away. It's important to start nursing ASAP and often times a mom is laying in recovery for an hour after a c-section. I'm an exeption, lol....I had a c-section and breastfed....it just depends on if you're commited or not. But it was hard getting her latched on because by the time I got out of recovery and to my room and had her in my arms she was passed out... :/ She was 5 hours old before I could get her latched on. Anyway....I'm sharing TMI, lol. Good luck with your assignment. Oh you could look into the health problems related to the epidural/spinal.
