Health Care Crisis in America

I am doing a big 10 page research on health care in America.

As you all know getting health insurance for a good low price is impossible.

20000 people die yearly of treatable diseases because they dont have health insurance and can't afford a big medical bill..

those families which make it barely above the medicaid line aren't abled to pay a large monthly bill while having other bills to pay..however other people who can afford it just dont get it because they think that nothing will happen to them until it does and bankruptcy strikes them...

What would you propose to the government for a change in health care whether it would be local, state or country wide..

This is why I support universal health care. Too many people suffer and die who wouldn't have to if we as a nation made this the priority it should be,instead of finding new countries to invade.

OK, I'm off my soapbox now.

alexleon13, check out the gazillion threads in the Social and Health Care Activism forum for some good ideas.

We have a national health care system for people 65 and older and it is called medicare. It is under attack, another set of cuts is in the wings and they are going to have a big impact on seniors. For close to 40 years my hubby and I have been paying taxes to support it without a word of complaint because we knew we would need it someday. In five years or less when we turn 65 is will be a shadow of it's former coverage.

There is a difference between universal coverage & actual access to medical care. Many countries provide universal insurance but deny critical proceures to patients that need them. In Britain approx. 900,000 people are waiting admission to National Health Service Hospitals, ppl over the age of 55 are generally denied access to dialysis, and 50,000 operations are canceled each year because of shortages. Sweden has a wait of approx. 6 mo. for heart surgery, hip surgery has an average wait of a year. I think we all agree that too many Americans have no health insurance. There are many proposals out there, some have merit, some do not. We have to be careful that we weigh the pro's and con's of each and find a system that is right for this country, and fair to everyone.

Absolutely.Of course. But there is a really big difference in "having to wait" and having no hope because you have no way to pay. I don't believe in health care for profit. There are probably a lot better ways than putting the govt in charge, but until someone comes up with one, I do think that's our best chance.
