Anyone (other than me) signed up for this one? This is nearly the last chance to take it before it becomes 4520.
I got a chance to look at the syllabus today and am very concerned about being able to complete this course.
The syllabus says that we need to have an otoscope, opthalmascope, reflex hammer and tuning fork. It also strongly recommends finding a preceptor who is a nurse practitioner. Most daunting, it says that we need to do a timed physical assessment witnessed by the NP - preceptor or videotaped by a third party. The final option - probably a non-starter for me since it means a 900 mile trip - is to drive to Athens or another OU campus and do the exam with a nursing instructor there.
I do not work in a hospital and have access to only pre-hospital trauma & life-support equipment. Purchasing may be option but that is a very considerable expense. A bigger worry for me is the assessment. I'm not sure I could find a patient willing to be videotaped and even if I could, finding a third-party to do the taping will not be easy. The NP-preceptor option may be even more problematic. While I could probably find a nursing instructor who would be willing to help out as preceptor, none of the instructors I know are NP's.
For anyone who who did not test out, how did you handle this?

Ignore that - it was for the on-campus BSN student group. There will be an announcement soon ... LOL. I thought they had taken that out already but maybe they are waiting for the combo class before correcting it.
Whoa - that's a relief. It actually was in the Week 1 handout, not the syllabus but still, it's hard to believe that they don't either fix it or tell you to ignore it before it induces HTN, tachycardia, diaphoresis and SOB.Ignore that - it was for the on-campus BSN student group. I hear ya! I did all that the first time around and I d*&^ sure wasn't going to do it again! Thinking I had to redo all of that was what made me study really hard and test out. Then - we find out it wasn't applicable to online students. THANKYOUVERYMUCHFORSHARINGTHAT!!
According to the syllabus the five modules cover; health assess, HEENT, cardio and resp systems, GI and musculoskeletal systems, and integumentary and neuro. Wondering if this excludes the other chapters in the text from the test out exam...
I wouldn't count on it - but the test has changed from when I took it.
Ill be taking/testing out of this course.....Got an email from the instructor saying that this class requires 5 hours daily....yeaaaaaaaah . I dont have that much time to myself right now. We shall see. Im just hoping for a B. 5 weeks with no paper writing would be great.
I wonder if they changed the syllabus.....I didn't find it incredibly difficult....and believe me that says a lot!
