have you emailed the secretary yet?
i just feel weird because i emailed her today and she said the registration was postponed but she said she will email me in a few weeks and since i passed the HESI, i will be able to enroll....the thing is my friend said she was able to contact the secretary and was able to choose a schedule......so i emailed her again and she said that my friend was not telling the the truth because nobody has chosen any class yet...
so if there are guys out here who are going to hcc pharmacology class this summer, please let me know.....
thank you
hello kim o therapy,
thanks for the reply....i thought i read somewhere that you are in UT hsc already. are you still doing your ADN or you are going to transfer this fall for your BSN? i follow your post because you are very helpful, i think you responded to one of my questions before. anyway, thanks again. i guess i just have to wait for the email if they will register me for pharma... i have 1 more ? though, did you take pharma in class or online? im thinking of doing it online, any advice is appreciated.
Final exams are still going on too. Mine is the 10th. It's so hard to have to wait. Just know that if you do well in pharmacology and have your pre-reqs done, you're pretty much assured that you will get into the program. I took pharm over the summer too and it was pretty crowded. Good luck!
Have done most of my pre-req's thru HCC. Although I have had some great profs, I am not impressed with any of the administrative staff at the colleges. I chose not to go through their program. They are too big, too unfriendly and frankly everyone looks disgruntled (my experience). I am going to Wharton's transitional program. Smaller campus and they genuinely seem to like their jobs.
Kriso, I had the same experience you did and choose another college...
i am sorry to hear that, but so far, everything is smooth saililng for me.....but since you guys are ahead of me, i just want to know the CPR certification...is it advisable for me to get it now? and what about that immunization thing, i could not understand that. if you guys have info about it, just let me know..i mean if it's ok with you guys sharing infos, the thing with hcc is you have to be ahead of time so there won't be any surprises, plus you have to ask around with the students, not with the staff....thanks guys, i really appreciate all the tidbits.
Well, at Cy Fair we had to have all three Hep B shots before we started classes. We didn't even go to clinicals our first semester, but we needed all three shots before we started. CPR is for Healthcare providers and we needed that before class started, as well. It is good for a year, so you might as well take it now so you don't have to worry about it when you get into school this semester. I think HCC requires you have all your shots done prior to entering because they do clinicals the first semester and it is required by the clinical sights.

You will need to be current with all your immunizations and TB testing. They will provide a list for you, along with a physical exam form. You will also need a current CPR card. If you don't have one, book a class now because they fill up quickly. I had to drive an hour away to get mine. The card is good for two years, so I recomment getting it just before nursing school starts, that way it won't expire during two years your in the RN program. By the way.......there will ALWAYS be surprises at that school! As long as you are flexible, it won't be a problem.
Try checking the American Red Cross, hospitals, and schools. I had a terrible time finding any open spaces in Houston and did a search on Google. I ended up driving out to Spring to get it....but I did it! Good luck.
P.S. You won't need the CPR card for Pharmacology; however, you must have it for the ADN program.
Kim O' therapy....
Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'm going through a lot of old post. You were in the nursing program at HCC? I'm living in Killeen and will be moving to Houston within a year or so. I was wondering if I started the LVN program here would it transfer there? I dont want to start then have to start over when I move. I could get some of the other courses HCC requires if the classes wont transfer. any info will be greatly appreciated.

I am at HCC now. It's a good program; however, just like other programs, as its problems.....the main one being last minute notice about everything. Most of us did not know we were in pharm or the actual nursing program until about 10 DAYS before it started. Then, the day-time lecture schedule was posted and registered as 8:30 - 12:00. Well, the first day of class they mentioned that it now had to be 12:30 to 4:30!! Can you imagine the daycare nightmare? Rearraging your work schedule? Luckily, I am very flexible, because you really need to be to get through it all. They will definitely notify you, it will just be at the last minute. Good luck!
