HCC ADN Fall 2008 Applicants

Published

Anyone applying to Houston Community College for the fall? I signed up today for the HESI. I am scheduled to take it on 3/29. If I do well, they will place me into the summer pharmacology course. I am a little nervous. I would love to hear from any students that are in the program. Any tips on the HESI & the Pharm. class would be helpful! The thought of it... ahhh it boggles my mind! LOL

Thanks!

for the spring the only colleges that take applications are kingwood & cyfair. Good luck with that! I applied for the fall @ North Harris and I'm on the waiting list! and I had an 11.0 in the grading system plus North harris accepted 110 this fall! so whatever you do make sure you have an 11.5 or higher, b/c those two colleges only accept 40-50 students from about 600 applications each!

From what I heard last summer from a nursing student @ Cyfair, her class went from 40 students that came in from the fall to only 12 students by that semester! I think all nursing programs have their flaws! I know this neonatal nurse who said that her hospital hired an nurse that got his BSA degree from some "Sunywade College" or something, it was an online college, anyway that's when she realized that hospitals are desperate, they just want nurses!

Im really hoping I will do fine as I have excelled so far in phlebotomy, ekg, and cna in a level 3 trauma ER. I deal with with even the wors patients and have a repuation for getting altered mental status patients to cooperate. I know nursing requires a lot of documentation , but my previous career was just as grueling in terms of stress and documentation. I am pretty sure I will be ok. Thanks for the tip on the spring as cyfair is the closest to home for me so that's a good thing. I can advise al furture students for this fall though, respect your techs... sometimes we can show you a thing or two. (grin)

Hey for all that are taking this Pharm class online, I REALLY recommend going to www.ratemyprofessor.com and check out the latest "ratings" on this online professor, Hermonne Sullivan, they are not good....Good Luck to all you Brave people! :uhoh21:

If have never been to this website before, I really recommend it, this is how I've been able to survive my hardest classes! You basically find the map and click on Texas then go down the list to Houston Community College and the professors are listed by last names.

Does anyone know if we can use calculators for the math at HCC??

yes you can...as long as it is not a pda or something that is programmable.

enjoy!

Make sure your calculator is a basic one!!!!Copy%20of%20wink.gif

Not sure how many of you will be taking pharm this summer on saturday... Ms. Grant is the prof. teaching (9a-2pm). Anyway, I guess pharm. is taught by a team of 5 teachers per class (mon-fri)... that is the usual process. Well this saturday class will be taught ONLY by her!!! I hear shes an awesome teacher and tells you exactly what to concentrate on. This is looking great so far! Can't wait to get the ball rollin' ;)

Also, my girlfriend did express to buy a recorder bc it will be very much needed when going over lectures and/or while studying.

Specializes in Critical Care.

I finally got my books. I bought the current edition of calculate with confidence but, the edition used this Spring of the Nursing process book. Im not falling for that new edition every other semester crap. I've started reading and eeek! im getting the jitters. Good luck to every one this summer!

It does seem like a lot!!!! I felt like that with A&P as well. I'm sure we will be fine :) I hear letters go out in mid-July... yes before Pharm. is even over.

o.k I have a question, It might have already been answered, but I'm going over the books for this Pharm class and there's 2 books, the "main lecture" book and then the "calculate with confidence" that is all the Math part. So my question is HCC's test that we need to pass, will it be strickly the math stuff and/or have questions from the "pharmacology & the nursing process" as well?

Anyone who's taken their Pharm test please help......:bowingpur

With HCC's pharm you will have to take the dosage calculations test and make a 90% in order to be considered for the program and that information will come from the Calculate with Confidence book and the other book will be the material for lecture exams. :nuke:
