HCC ADN Fall 2008 Applicants

Published

Anyone applying to Houston Community College for the fall? I signed up today for the HESI. I am scheduled to take it on 3/29. If I do well, they will place me into the summer pharmacology course. I am a little nervous. I would love to hear from any students that are in the program. Any tips on the HESI & the Pharm. class would be helpful! The thought of it... ahhh it boggles my mind! LOL

Thanks!

I PMed you, did you get the message?

Specializes in Critical Care.

I finally signed up for pharm. I am doing the online class hopefully my previous online courses and being an experienced student will help me in this class. Maybe we can organize a study group?

I am sure you will do fine! I did all my classes online this past semester including Microbiology and I pulled an A. I have also heard that the summer classes are little easier compared to regular term.

Hey I finally got your message and I replied so check it and if you need anymore info just let me know!

Hello everyone, hope you guys are all enjoying the time off (unless you are doing a class during the mini-term: boo!) I know I am; I dont want to get tooo comfy since Pharma is around the corner.

I recieved both of my books for Pharmacology and I'm reading about the basics (Nursing Process ch 1)... how interesting! Anyway, I'm feeling VERY nervous about this class. Is anyone else feeling this way?? Everyone tells me its normal but as time gets closer.. I am not getting better. LOL, I feel like I just jumped into a pool w/o ANY water!! Gosh, and this isn't even the program yet. :uhoh3: I think its bc so much relies on passing this course with flying colors to get into the program... look at me just :typing away!

At this point, I am praying for more motivation, patience, guidance, energy, and wisdom. Its going to be a L-O-N-G summer!

good luck to all of you who will be taking pharmacology this summer!

we will see you in fall that is for sure!

Good luck to all the HCC hopefuls...I switched to lonestar so I cant apply til the fall for spring entry...make sure to post how it goes with HCC and Ms. Rich as a instructor (shudder).

what do you mean you switched to Lone star? are you starting the program there?

At the lonestar system it is different tha HCC. They use a point system and part of that is making sure you have all academics done. So I am still doing pharmacology this summer at north harris, but I have to do sociology and speech in the fall and apply for spring admission. The good thing is you retake the hesi every application period (only reading comp and math) and the credits are so much cheaper I got 10 credit hours for 486$. The other thing is when I finish my extra classes I can apply to all 5 programs instead of just one at HCC. and I don't have to have Ms. Rich as an instructor. I met several of the lonestar instructors while I worked at LBJ emergency room and they were more hands on with their students when they were on my unit. I am looking forward to getting in to one of their programs. HCC was fun but their nursing program is disappointing to me. IMHO

I hear that HCC disappoints a lot of people... but why so? I would love to hear feedback on this.

Up until the nursing program I guess I have just been lucky to have positive pro student encouraging insructors. And between Ms. Clark's shortness and obvious disregard for students, and Ms. Richs outright nastiness and anti-student personality I was convinced HCC wasn't worth my time or money. Combine that with I had HCC students loose on my unit with no instructor in sight the entire time. I didn't feel they were giving the type of instruction I was seing with the kingwood and tomball students. A lot of times my nurses were short of time and patience so I was assigned to show the students around / find things for them to do. Prairieview was also disappointing because I had students in 4th semester who couldn't draw blood. I realize that I have more experience in that environment since I work there and am trained in Phlebotomy, EkG and IV starts but I would think by the end of their nursing programs these RNs would do it better than me.
