I am very leary of the company. One minute you feel like you can trust them, and the next minute you don't know what's going on. However they are big on promoting young nurses, which I am. Right now I am being considered for a management position with only four years of nursing background. Just a piece of advice always be aware of what's going on around you, and rememeber the majority of all hospital rumors are true!

] NO OFFENSE BUT......PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER A MANAGEMENT POSITION UNLESS YOU KNOW YOU ARE QUALIFIED!!! I'M WILLING TO BET THERE ARE ALOT OF NURSES OUT THERE WHO SHARE MY SENTIMENT. IN MY EXPERIENCE, SOME HOSPITALS WILL ASK ONE TO CONSIDER MANAGEMENT JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE DESPERATE FOR SOMEONE TO FILL A VACANT POSITION. YOU ARE THEN PUT UNDER A MICROSCOPE AND VERY VULNERABLE. I HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN OVER AND OVER. ARE YOU READY TO GIVE UP YOUR] STAFF NURSE MENTALITY AND GIVE WAY TO THE CORPORATE MENTALITY OF A NURSE MANAGER? IS YOUR BOTTOM LINE MINIMAL STAFFING FOR MAXIMUM DOLLARS ? ARE YOU HAPPY AT THE BEDSIDE OR IN THE BOARDROOM? I HAVE BEEN THE MANAGER OF NURSING STUDENTS/ NURSING ASSISTANTS THAT HAVE BECOME MY SUPERIORS ALL FOR THE GLORY OF ADVANCEMENT....NOT FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF NURSING.

I have worked for a HCA facility for over 10 years. Over the last year HCA has tried selling all of their hospitals in my state to a company callled Lifepoint, we recently just found out that Lifepoint will buy all of the hospitals except the one I work at. We have alot of law suits pending from a surgeon that wasn't even licensed...bad scene. Anyway, I was very much relieved to learn that we would stay HCA they have been fair to their employees and tried to make the best of bad situations. In hard times they are able to support a smaller hospital like we are than we are to stand on our own. I believe HCA is doing better than our local not for profit hospitals and treat their employees better. I hope to retire from HCA.

SERIOUSLY, I have problems working for a corporation that does not recognize July 4th holiday, Labor day, Memorial Day, Columbus Day.....What are they thinking??? Just my opinion. I work p/t for HCA but benefits and the cost of their insurance and options for you family is very high compared to competitors in the area. However HCA thinks their benefits are "the bomb". HCA is a "for-profit" corp......so, where is their priorities???
