Hello,
I've applied for the CSULB FNP Fall 2010 program and spoke to Allison, graduate coordinator who said applicants might not be notified until as late as mid-April. Does anyone knows of anything else? Do applicants have interviews? I heard that EL-MSN applicants might.
Thank you.
So I alled alison again and she said tha it looks like the final decision might be made after July 4th..they are trying to admit as many student as possible so they are trying to have almos all the NP specialty tobe under CCPE , which would make the fees higher by approximately 500 per unit..still need to wait though..
I currently am an ICU nurse and just today got a per diem position at urgent care. I plan to quit my full-time ICU position and keep the per diem position if I get in to school. I would have stayed in ICU but I wanted to transition to a clinic setting and I like the flexibility of 8 hour or 12 hour shifts. My ICU position does not allow 8 hour shifts. Just waiting! Hope it all works out because now I have this per diem position that I won't need if I am not in school! I couldn't wait any longer to find per diem position though, the process can take awhile so I had to just go for it. Any advice on how to obtain health insurance while in school? Do they offer it through school or should I do private?
My supervisor is very understanding as well. However, I really need the flexibility to just work one shift per week if I need to and other weeks I may work 3 or 4 days. I just don't want to be held down by a weekly 36 hour requirement and suffer because of it. I also live in San Diego and will be commuting so that also adds to the need for a flexible per diem position. I wish I could do full time and still get benefits but I just don't think it is realistic for me. I never had to get loans for my undergraduate degree so I don't mind having to do it for my masters...but it still isn't fun to have loans!
I think I remember from my BSN that the university offered a student health plan. It was a pretty terrible plan and was pretty much restricted to the student health clinic and emergencies but I have heard that some schools offer better plans. I don't know. I will have to look into it when I know for sure if I am even going to school.

I too, couldn't wait and emailed Alison.
She wrote that they are still making decisions. Hopefully, by next week we will know. That the FNP program may be going through the College of Continuing and Professional Education, and that my application is in dept. review, meaning they have cleared my application but are just waiting for the School of Nursing decision. They have accepted me but they have had restrictions put on them in terms of how many they can accept, and whether it needs to be through CCPE instead of what they call 'stateside'. So this is where the delay is, trying to see if they can get the FNPs through CCPE (this happened last year so they hope that is the same).
Does this mean the nursing dept conditionally accepted me, but is awaiting on if they have to make one final rounds of cut because of the state budget and restriction? I wasn't too sure. So we just have to wait for one more week. I will keep you all posted.
