Has anyone transferred their LPN/LVN license to Calif recently?

Published

Hello,

I am transferring my LPN/LVN license from Idaho to CA and wondered if anyone else has done this recently? I just want to know if it is really going to take 12 or more weeks before I can start working and they give me a thumbs up. I sent everything they asked for and took all the proper steps for endorsement. Anyway, I did prepare for the longest wait -but I just wondered if it has ever been less time for anyone else.

Thanks...

Okay well...Here is another update...

As of June 8th I am officially allowed to work in California as an LPN/LVN:nurse: Yeah! My name is clear and on the website! I've been checking it daily~

I'm so happy this only took about 5wks to completely get through the entire process.:yeah:

That includes..Fingerprints, the DOJ, the application processing and all! I'm so grateful!

What a relief! Now...to job hunt. That will probably be a bit of a task I'm sure..but maybe with any luck I'll find

a job. I know it is a bit difficult to get a job these days with the economy the way it is. Nevertheless, I'm so excited and motivated!

I have a huge ear to ear grin...I miss Southern Calif. soooo much!

Thank you to everyone for your help and tips, you have all been very enlightening and encouraging!:)

Wish me luck;)

Congratulations! Do me a favor and keep us updated on your job search. I would really like to move back to CA soon and am interested in seeing what kind of luck you have finding a job (hopefully fairly quickly!). Good luck!

Hi Sensoria17,

Here is another little update...I have been contacted by a staffing agency that has offered me a short term contract so that i can work at the VA in Long Beach, Cal. They said it can easily turn into a longer term and very possibly a permanent position as well. I'm really excited because that is one of the MAIN places I was really hoping to get a job at :)

So I have been sending them all of the information they have needed and I just need to update my BLS and CPI and I'm set to begin their next step..(I'm guessing an interview or something at the VA) Anyway, they have quite a few jobs, and get this..They often times can put you to work even if you don't have a CA license..b/c it is federal stuff..Wow, who'da thunk it?

Makes perfectly good sense. Anyway, I'm interviewing at a couple of other places down that way as well just to cover my bases and see what pans out. Here is their link if you're interested in checking them out. They seem to be really nice people. Good luck to you ;)

Lulu-

That's fantastic news! I was actually just telling someone how I need to get on at the VA so I can transfer to CA. Are you currently living in CA right now? That would be my next obstacle, finding a job while living out of state.

Anyhow, thanks for keeping the board updated. Let us know where you finally end up working. This really is good news as it gives me some hope for getting back home.

Sensoria17,

Hello again,

No, I have been living out of state. I have been filling out a lot of apps online and this past week they have been calling me back to set up

face to face interviews and some do the first interview over the phone :)

Anyway, I'm heading down there this coming wk. and I'm going to update my BLS at place that does it like 3 days a wk. and look for someone that will let me update my CPI. Anyway, I'm really excited to go home too...I miss the smell of the ocean and I miss the sunshine -but not all that smog and traffic ;\

anyway..I will let you know how it all goes...when I'm fully hired on somewhere. You should let us know when you do something out that way too...

Good luck to you!

Can you share which agency you worked with temporarily at the VA? I currently work at the VA as a LPN and am trying to move back to CA. I want to move to Sacramento, but the VA is not hiring LVNs currently. Any info on the agency would be most helpful

BVNPT seems to need to get it together. I cannot reach them by phone or by email. I would call this poor customer service! I am from California and planning to return after 11 years of being gone. I got educated and licensed in NC as a LPN and now trying to transfer my license. I did send my LVN paperwork in the mail about four weeks ago, and still nothing. I also applied on BREEZE website for a psych tech by education/experience application the other day. I wonder which one will be faster? I am from Ojai, CA but plan to return to Sacramento area. There appears to be many jobs for LVNs and Psych techs. Praying I hear soon!

Hi ladies, I figured it has been 5 years and what is the outcome of you all with your reciprocity and landing a good job in California??? I worked in two areas in California as an LVN in a VENT/SUB Acute.... It was great, but the work placed sucked, so left there for after 4 months. Then went and worked at an Assisted Living as a Generations Director...basically a dementia unit coordinator for about a year. While it was fun and great.... I left California and moved back to east coast, CT... It was nice to be with family, it was just too much of a cultural shock... The worst was the pay rate offered at many places. You would think with the high cost of living employers would pay well, nope.... In norcal most high pay jobs were in the bay area. Commuting is just a normal routine for many. The benefits were not better compared to where I use to work in CT. Got my old job back and I even love it more.
