Hello lovely nurses:). I am thinking about enrolling in the University of Phoenix MSN program this fall; it is a online program...I am pretty sure I'm going to do it. However, I would love some thoughts or advice from the nursing community who have had the UofP MSN experience. Did getting this particular MSN help advance your career, and have you accomplished what you've hoped to by getting the degree? My goal is to one day become a supervisor, and possibly teach at a community college. If anyone has any input, I would greatly appreciate it. It's going to be a huge investment of time and money, and I just really want it to be worth it.
I thank any and everyone in advance for their input:).
Thank you:)!!!!

I have a co-worker that graduated from UofP with her MSN in education. She is one of our full time faculty members (assistant professor rank). So, yeah, it definitely was of benefit to her.
Just be sure you are the type of person who has the self-discipline to do on-line work. I know that I am not one of those types......so I went the traditional in-class route.

I am actually finishing up my MSN/MHA at UOP right now, will be done Oct. 5. This was a great option for me because of the flexibility, but you really do need to be disciplined to do it, and you only get one break a year and thats around Christmas. Otherwise, your going to school straight through. The instructors were great and there are a lot of papers and team projects, but overall a good experience. I wanted to work in management at some point which is why I chose the dual Master's program, but now I'm leaning towards education which is the focus of the MSN I got anyway. Also, my former manager who is a director of cardiac nursing at a large trauma center got her MSN from UOP also and it did help her get into that position.

I completed my MSN in management and leadershi in May 2005 and yes, I did fine. However, I wanted a clinical focus and so went back to school and completed an adult health CNS in May 06 and now I'm in the peds CNS program - neither at UoP obviously. I also did my BSN completion at UofP and yes, you do have to have a certain amount of discipline.

just curious...how to you complete team projects if the program is entirely online? or is a portion of it in class? I'm still in LPN school but interested in eventually going that route...
There is sort of an online virtual classroom with a main board, team boards, a private board for each student, chat area, and course materials. This not interactive in that you are online chatting at the same time, but all team members communicate via their particular team board and all work is posted in that forum. We just break up the assignments and each complete a portion and one or more team members will compile and post to the instructor. It may sound complicated, but its just as easy as posting on here.
Thank you so much all of you for your responses. I am really looking forward now to the program...I know it will be heavy. However, I went through an accelerated BSN program that was just a year long...I have felt if I can do that (it was awfully hard), I can do anything:). We did have online classes in part during my BSN, so thankfully I do have some experience.
Again, I truly appreciate the feedback:). You guys are awesome!
