Has anyone quit wgu?

Nursing Students Western Governors

I started December 1st and I'm honestly just so annoyed. I knew that this was going to be self paced and self learning. But I'm just so lost.

I have only finished one class in 6 weeks, care of the older adult. I could have finished it in 2 hours, but I had so many tech issues with and proctor u.

I have oral communication, biochemistry, and statistics.

I'm so over whelmed, I want to do biochemistry next, but I feel like there's absolutely no direction, just a million videos, which do I watch, all of them?

I spoke to my mentor once the entire time I've been in school. I email her and she responds but she gives some generic response and basically avoids any questions I ask her.

I'm guessing this isn't the type of program for me :(

Pls AlphaM, where are you having your DNP program? I am considering starting my RN-BSN with WGU but I definitely want to go on to a DNP. Thanks.

Hello! I'm attending Chamberlain's DNP in healthcare leadership

I'm about to leave ths school as well. I unfortunately got a mentor who only lets me do one class at a time and is forcing me to go in the order she chose for me. Once I finished my terms required courses she turned into a speed bump.she keeps saying work ahead and not opening up anything for me . I requested a new mentor, and was told I can have a new one but it will still be on the same team and this team goes one class at a time in the specified order they chose. I've gone up 3 levels and this is being held firm. I see most other students are allowed to choose class order and have more than one class open, so I got the short end of the stick. This school has zero consistency and I've now wasted 6 months and 3500 bucks. There has also been a lot of problems with the recent portal upgrade which has made it impossible to access necessary information for about 3 weeks. It seems to be better now but that's a chunk of time lost and filled with frustration.

I have decided, that I'm not going to continue at ...

It's not the right school for me... I wasted time and money.. And delayed grad school... But hopefully I can start at a new school in the fall.

Did you end up leaving? I will be starting the program soon. I wonder if I could request a certain type of student mentor after I get accepted? Like tell the enrollment counselor that I want to finish in one term and want a mentor who will guide me through that. Any advice I would appreciate! Thank you.

Do not do that. Nothing I've seen has given me any reason to think they would attempt to facilitate this.

You don't get to choose your mentor, and the vast majority of them are very helpful and accommodating. Take the complaints with a grain of salt, in my experience there are other unsaid things going on. There are hundreds (dare I say thousands at this point) of students who don't complain about our mentors, because we don't have any issues with them.

Firstly, it's all fine and well to hope for a one term finish, but if it doesn't happen are you willing and able to continue on? If the answer is no don't even start. A one term finish was unusual a few years ago, and very rare in the last year or so since they have changed the program. That's not to say it is impossible, but it is increasingly rare. A one year finish seems to be the new fast finish.

If if you do move forward and start with WGU, no, don't say from the start you are aiming for a one term finish. Just start, work through your courses, and see how it goes. There are guidelines that your mentor will be strict about that may loosen up when you prove yourself (or may not). You will need to pass pre tests by a good margin before they will open finals. You will need to complete prerequisite classes (ie biochem and stats) before they will pull up program courses. You will have very little say in the order of your courses. You will not be allowed to start bridge or MSN courses before prerequisites or bsn courses are complete. Once you four classes in your term are complete you will only be allowed to pull up one class at a time. These issues are what a lot of complaints seem to focus on, so understanding them from the start is a good idea.

In in my experience watching people move through WGU and recently finishing myself, there are two main problems. The first being students who do not do well with self led learning. At WGU there are an abundance of resources, but, you need to know how to evaluate what you know, what you need to learn to complete the course, and then use the provided resources to get what you need. If you can't do that, or really need detailed instructor driven learning WGU is not a good fit for you. The other obstacle I see are students who think that self learning means they get to dictate every single aspect of how they want this program to go. It doesn't work that way either. There are guidelines, you are a part of your team that guides you learning, but your mentor and the design of the program are also a huge part of how this program works. You don't get to do whatever you want however you want. There are some rules and guidelines, and some students don't function well with them.

I loved WGU and did well. It's a great program, if it fits you. It doesn't fit everyone. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I have one of the relatively inflexible mentors, but I have finished 22 credits since 3/1. I have 3 classes to go for my BSN, with 2 of those in the queue for grading. I can't imagine that I'd be able to finish a BSN in 3 or so months anywhere else.
