Has anyone been placed at Gateway?

Published

I was placed at Gateway CC for the Spring '06 program. Has anyone else been placed there? Does anyone know what the program is like? Or when orientation and class schedules will be available? I was hoping to find other people who may be going to Gateway in the spring so that we could share what we may know with each other.

Thanks.

Congratulations on getting in!!!!! Was Gateway your first choice?

I haven't been placed yet. I applied last summer and am still waiting for a spot, I'm hoping to maybe get into the Banner program. Did you apply last spring or summer? I'm trying to get an idea of how many summer people have been placed, to see where I stand. One girl on this board got MCC, but I"m not sure if anyone else here got placed, a lot of us haven't been placed yet.

I applied this past Spring. When I turned in my application, I was told that it would be a one semester wait, not counting summers (apparently summers are not counted as semesters). I had a middle of the road lotto number also, so I was surprised that I recieved my first choice.

Hi,

I was placed at Gateway CC in 2001 for the part-time program. It was the first year of the program and there were a lot of kinks to be worked out. Now I hear that things are going well.

I found the program to be thorough. Some of the instructors at the time were no-nonsense and difficult to get answers from. Some of the students were very interesting as many were re-careering and like me had bachelor degrees and worked full-time as a professional during the program. Some would get rather testy when they recieved a B in a subject in the nursing program and had been used to getting straight A's as an undergrad. Nursing school is not easy! It is not for the faint of heart. I have B.S. degree in Biology/Chemistry and found the courses at Gateway to be quite challenging and during the clinicals...the care plans to be daunting.

All in all, its a good, thorough program where you will learn your skills in a competent environment.

Which program are you doing?

Thank you for your reply. I am in the traditional four semester program.

Hi Smurfy,

I have also been placed in Gateways Spring of '06 Day Program. I haven't heard anything yet about orientation or class times. I took a look at the schedule for spring and it looks like we will have class on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday but I could be wrong. I was going to wait a little bit and if I didn't hear anything I was going to call Betty Cleveland in the advising department. I am so excited to start I can barely stand it. I had a semester wait also, so I took some of the co-reqs while I was waiting. Gateway was my first choice so I was really surprised when I got in. I hope some other people who are going to Gateway in the spring start to post on this board. It would be great to get to know some of our classmates before we get started.

I called Gateway last week to ask when information would be sent out. The head of the the nursing dept (not advisors) said it may be three or four weeks before they get around to it. Apparently, the office has just recieved the list of names of the people who are going to go to Gateway. The lady said that school would start January 18, with orientation held on the 11th. That was all I could get from them, and that took a good 30 minutes. I was really hoping for the info alot sooner (I am very excited and want to get on with it). I also looked at the schedule for Spring classes, but someone told me that some of them are for Banner people, so I could not quite figure out our schedule. I do know that we will have pharmacology before our clinicals (which start six weeks after classes start). If I find out more, I will let you know.

Thanks,

Smurfy

I have a couple of friends who were accepted at MCC. They started registration this last Monday. They received their packets last Thursday and had to get a physical etc. before they could register. My advice to you would be to make sure you have everything ready, shot records, CPR card, everything you'll need so that when you get your registration packet you're not scrambling around trying to find a CPR class or anything. Hopefully you'll get them soon.

Congrats on everyone who got into Gateway! I put in my application this week, as 10/24 was the first day for students who are in the last day of pre-reqs to get their names "in the system." Gateway is my first choice, and I intend to make the advisor there my best bud in the coming months! Hopefully my lottery number will work out...can't believe I am finally in the last stages of classes (Micro and CNA)...

Thanks for the information.

So, how do you like the program?

I applied the week of March 27th and chose Gateway as my first choice. On the website to check placement status, [https://web1.dist.maricopa.edu/cfide/docs/hcies/studentstatus/index.cfm] it states, "Placement for the Fall 2006 semester will resume August 10, 2006. After this date, we will resume placement on a daily basis (as needed) until August 24. Please confirm your telephone number in our database as we will contact placed students via telephone." If they are still placing for Fall 2006, how did you already get placed for Spring 2006? Is that a typo on the website, should it really be Spring placement is occurring on a daily basis? I feel like I have been waiting forever and it is so difficult to get answers from anyone, as they don't answer their phones or respond to e-mails. The worst part is just not knowing your start date, it makes planning life difficult.
