Has anyone been interviewed by the other floor nurses?

I had an interview yesterday and I believe it went really well, at the end of the interview the nurse manager told me she would call me back next week and the floor nurses would interview me and the other two candidates together and they would pick the best "fit".. I have never experienced this! Has this happened to anyone else? What should I expect/prepare for?

It is not uncommon for the floor nurses, your future coworkers, to interview candidates. Many mangers ask for that, so they can make sure the candidate will fit into the workplace. Why hire someone who the rest of the staff cannot see fitting in? It saves some future problems.

I would just approach it as another interview. Let them ask about you, be honest, and show interest and ask about the unit. Be yourself and highlight your uniqueness. Good luck!

I am on the Peer Interview Committee for my unit.

You will be interviewed by members of this committee and quite possibly, an ANM or NM (present in our last). We have set questions relating to our "core values." We give each applicant a chance to ask questions of us, the unit nurses, and then to sell us on why we should hire him/her. Each question has a weight value and we assign from 1-5 (5 is tops) what that answer meant to us.

It's an interesting thing - to get to see your potential co-workers. We do phone interviews as well for those who are unable to come to us.

these are referred to as "peer" interviews. they often have a list of questions they have to ask you, ie give us a specific example of how you handled a conflict with another colleague, etc.

Thanks for the responses! I'm so nervous, especially since she said we would all three be interviewed together...

One of my first interviews as a GN out of college included a "casual" meeting with the group of floor nurses in the breakroom..... it makes sense to address the dynamics of the Unit from the start.... but, remember, YOU are interviewing THEM as well.... it should be a good fit for EVERYONE!!! Be yourself & trust your gut..... if it doesn't feel right from either aspect, it isn't where you are meant to be..... better to know now.... that's the good thing about being a NURSE.... we have great job security.... there will always be jobs for us.......!!!! You've heard of the "Nursing Shortage", right?!?!?! *grin*

Good Luck to you!!! Let us know how it goes!!!

I think peer interviews are very valuable although I personally wouldn't be happy about the group interview part of this particular one. Good luck.
