Hi all! I was wondering if anyone has known of someone getting into school without taking the GRE. I'm purposely only applying to schools that do not require it, as I did not take it. My college GPA was a 3.90 (+3 minors+student athlete+honors program). Will all of my hard work in college replace my lack of a GRE score, or is it a bad look not having taken it, even to school that it isn't a hard necessity for?
Thanks for all the input!

If you are applying to a program that doesn't require the GRE then it will not look bad for not having it because it is not required. Multiple programs are starting to drop the requirements of using the GRE, others don't require it unless your GPA is below a certain point.

Why not take the GRE?

You can. If you applied to schools that don't require GRE then there shouldn't be any reason why they wouldn't consider you. That was actually me a year ago. I was taking forever to study for my GRE and I was getting anxious so I decided to apply to two schools that didn't require it while I was still studying. I eventually took it cause I wanted to apply to more schools and increase my chances of getting in but those two schools actually accepted me. If you're confident with your GPA and your clinical experience, I say go for it.

The reason many schools do not require it is that there is no correlation between success in anesthesia school and a particular GRE score. Many of the schools that have it as a requirement actually don’t have a super high score requirement. However, that means you are competing against other applicants that may have a higher score than you. My school doesn’t require it and it has absolutely no bearing on whether a person gets accepted. The ONLY reason I would encourage you to take it is if there is a school that you really want to go to, requires it. Otherwise- don’t waste your time.
There’s a correlation between really low scores and failing boards. Like scores less than 285.

What you say for someone that has a 298?

Would you send score of 302 154v /148 q to schools that dont require it for high gpa? My gpa is 3.6 so a few schools waive their gre requirement for me.
Yes, that’s a good score
It also shows motivation and willingness to do what it takes to become a CRNA.

Thanks! was feeling very conflicted and definitely considering retaking the exam because a CRNA friend of mine advised against. The programs I'm applying that require gre scores have much lower stated scores but wasnt sure for the ones that dont require GRE.

Mine was sad. Like 141 on quant and 147 on verbal today. Ran out of time on quant, and it all went downhill from there. It’s really frustrating because my Kaplan pretests all predicted at-least a 155 on quant and 157 in verbal with all my practice tests... I also feel like Kaplan gre prep didn’t even come close to comparing on content on their exam vs the exam I took today. My application is due October 1, and I don’t have time to retake. There is no posted minimum, so everyone says to submit anyway due to my gpa and experience. I just don’t feel like it accurately represents my ability academically ? and maybe I’m too critical but I don’t like those numbers on my application

would you still submit??
